Canadians - where to buy the PC

The 7424 & 7336 are identical units. Check Porter Cables web site for parts list breakdown. The 7424 is set-up for polishing out of the box. The 7336 is ready for sanding out of the box.

Paul, don't you have some sort of connection with CTC?

btw, I am the 1 that bought the 99 Cobra seats from Tom last fall. I owe you 1 for that hook-up, so let me know what you end up buying. I have a spare 5" velcro pad that I don't use and can put your name on it. Just trying to return a favour.

No more hook up with CTC...I now work for BMW

I will buy that pad from you when I get my 7424...I will not be "sanding" so 7424 seems to be the best.

What are you driving these days? Know anyone who wants a 400HP GT Show Car?

I have a 95 GTS. Just a "fun car" to toy with. btw I know Chris R. & Jason. Bought 99 5 spokes from Chris last year.

Just get the cheapest 1 you can find. They are the same unit. The 5" pad/plate is yours n/c. I lucked out on a 7424 then some 5" & 6" pads. I will keep my eyes open for a 6" for you. Then your only problem will be trying to find polishing/buffing pads at a good price. lol

It really does suck trying to find things @ a good price. If I had to do it again, I would locate the closest Lowes that had them the 7336 in stock. That's probably Rochester, NY. Nothing like a shopping trip across the border.

Bill M.

Why would you get the 7336 if you had to do it again?

Everyone seems to be recomending the 7424. probally because the pads, etc are cheaper and easier to find for the 7424

The 7336 is/was 109 usd at Lowes. You do the math!

It has a psa pad, so then you buy a 6" velcro convertion disk at Lee Valley tools (about 10 to 15 bucks) and your all set. Buy some pads and polish away.

As I said, they are the EXACT same tool. Besides, Autolite 24/25 plugs for a buck at Walmart, Ford FL-1A filters for 3 bucks, a us gallon of Gold Class shampoo for 10 bucks at Target, meguiars #20 for 13 dollars at Summit. Need I say more.

If you know of any large Home Hardware near you, give them a call and see what kind of price you can negotiate. Home Depot in Burlington has the 7424 for around 210 cdn.

You want the 7336. It's not a matter of what it comes with, or even pad size, or if one is "better" than the other. None of this really matters because all you really want is the heavier 6" counterweight.

The foam pad that comes with the 7424 has limited uses and you'll still need to buy a velcro backing plate. With the 7336 you'll still need a backing plate because the one it comes with is the PSA type.

PCs are still loosely called 7424 models because that's what people bought more often in the past, and people also easily see that it is designed for polishing. The only 7424 one should ever buy these days is the one Coastal sells just because they throw in a bunch of extras. Really, you want a 7336 or 7336sp.

I have a (rather long) thread linked in my signature below that describes the different models, and makes some breif recommendations. I also have links to Geekysteve's excellent PC articles over at Roadfly. Please take the time to read or at least browse these threads - they are FULL of information and were written to help people clear up confusion. :xyxthumbs

Wmac,

You get Megs#20 for $13 at summit? What is summit and where is it? I think you were talking about the U.S.

stevet:

Meg #20 @ Summit Racing in Tallmadge (Akron), Ohio.

Best price I've seen here is about 27.50 cdn.

I just called a PC distributor here in Toronto, and he just told me that the 7336 has been discontinued.

The guy on the phone recommeded that I buy a Makita (sp??) 9227C.

Does anybody know if the 7336 - 7336 SP has been discontinued, and does anybody know anything about the Makita (sp??) Polishers ??

Thanks

The Makita 9227c is a serious polisher. It works great

as long as you know how to use it. Not sure if the 7336

has been discontinued.

Thanks

Toronto is a huge city - I'd just keep phoning. Someone must at least have one in stock. These things supposedly all come out of Guelph.

It doesn't look discontinued to me. http://www.porter-cable.com/index.asp?e=547&p=2773

Besides, where would all those woodworkers be left? ;)

I bought mine at canadian tire, too. At the time the exchange rate was crap and it was on sale @ CT. the price at CT came to about the same as the coastal tool price.

I'm guessing with the better exchange rate now (about 10 cents higher now then when i got mine) you might find it cheaper to order from coastal tools.

They prolly discontinued the 7336SP and replaced it with another number .. same thing .. different options on it .. like the 7424

Bought mine at Canadian Tire 2 weeks ago for $240 Cdn. By the time you pay exchange, duty, and gst/pst ( yes they do charge you taxes when it comes through customs I found that out ) you would be around that anyways minus the wait and hassle.

Yielar

I got a 7424 at crappy tire last year for 179.99 on sale. Might be worth your while to wait over the winter, and watch for sales.

yah. I got mine for $180 also.

I asked the guy why so cheap. he said that they weren't carrying it anymore and were liquidating stock :?:
