Can you repost Meguiars APC+ and Engine Kote review?

There was a review here right before the server probs about the Meguiar's APC+ and their Engine Kote. It had some pictures that I wanted to show to a friend with a dirty engine bay. Plus, I'm positive there are others that would be interested (there is some talk on the University about Engine Kote). Could you please repost the review and the pictures?

Ok, this is a re-post due to the server change over. I picked up 5 gal. of the new Meguiars Detailer All Purpose Cleaner Plus based on the recommendation of NYDetailer and Jason. I also decided to try the new Engine Kote, so I snagged a gal. of that too.

Here they be:

Per the instructions, I mixed the All Purpose cleaner 4:1 and sprayed this dirty beast down with it.

I let the cleaner dwell for a minute, but did not agitate anywhere in the engine compartment. I then rinsed the cleaner off with my power washer. This is what it looked like after rinsing:

I missed a couple spots on the upper intake manifold, but a damp rag easily cleaned that up.

Finally, I sprayed the Engine Kote on:

If you look closely in the final pic, you can see the milky white Engine Kote on the air box cover. These pools dry completely, and you cannot tell they pooled there. I think the next time I use this dressing I am going to try a couple light applications anyway, just for comparison. The dressing is not sticky once it has dried.

NYDetailer, JasonC8301, and laynlow:

Where did you purchase the APC+ and the Engine Kote?? How long did it take to get there?? How much was the total cost (each item)??

About the application: I really hope that what you said is true, but I'll ask again, just to clarify. Did you agitate the solution of APC+ at all to get the results that you did just from the wash?? Did you use a regular spray bottle to spray the engine down or some other method??

Oh yea and this is for the before picture: :scared

This is for the after wash picture:

And this is for the after Engine Kote picture: :shocked :shocked :xyxthumbs :bow

Good job!

I purchased the cleaner and engine kote from a local Finishmasters. The five gallon jug of cleaner was $44.00 and the gal of engine kote was $19.95. I went in the store at about 8:30 am and the items were in the store waiting on me in 2 hours.

I bought a plain ole' trigger sprayer bottle from Home Depot with a dilution scale on the side for both products application. I did not aggitate, but then again I rinsed with a high pressure power washer. A bit of aggitation might be necessary if only using a garden hose sprayer. ;)

That is so true... i only use a pressurized spray bottle (those used for gardening/fertilizer spraying) to rinse out the soaked areas to avoid getting too much water into places like plug wires and such... In my case, (no high pressure), agitation is required...

I've tried the high pressure route as well... works well, but I prefer brusing the edges, around bolts and such where a simple hose-down will not be able to clean up.

i got some apc and engine koteyesterday from the local paint supplier. This stuff is awesome! I also picked up a book of evverything that can go wrong witht he paint. It has the "professional" name and the "common" names.

Ok, I got my APC+ and Engine-Kote yesterday. I used the APC+ on my wife's engine (I couldn't wait!) and it was great. I did have to agitate a bit with a brush. The engine isn't completely clean like it had never been used, but it is substantially better than before. The APC+ works great. Then I put on the Engine-Kote, and it is awesome! You have to spray a lot or wipe it around, but that might be because of my spray bottle. Next time I think I'll water it down a little so I feel comfortable spraying more of it for better coverage. It really does dry to this hard coating and it isn't sticky at all once dry (it's sticky as heck if you wipe it around while wet, though).

I also used the APC+ as a dewaxer today. I Dawn-washed yesterday and it didn't cut it. I could feel the wax was still on the surface. Today I filled the sprayer with 64:1 of water and APC+, hosed the car down, and then just walked around covering the paint with the spray. At that dilution level it was super mild and I felt completely comfortable with it on the paint. I let it sit for about a minute and then hosed off thoroughly. I could notice the water didn't bead as much (although it does still bead on the paint) and my finger squeaked as I dragged it on the surface. I did a second application with the sprayer just to be sure there weren't any spots that didn't get hit. I then washed the car with Gold Class and proceeded with my #7/#26 regimine. The APC+ was excellent as a de-waxer and I'd recommend it over Dawn (plus, you aren't dragging it around the paint like with Dawn. I always wonder how well Dawn encapsulates dirt since it isn't a car product).

The Engine-Kote is also very versatile. I used it on the lower air-dam on my car as well as on the front plastic grills (look at my car if you want to know what I'm talking about. It's posted in the gallery and in the Member's Picts forum). I also sprayed it in the wheel-wells. It worked great on the front plastic. I'm not sure about the wheel-wells as they were impossible to get completely clean. However, it will probably last longer than #40 or 303 or something would. It isn't a product I'd try on any interior, weatherstripping, or tires, but it does have uses besides just on the engine. I think I'm going to detail my PC with it. Give it a nice dust-resistant coating...

The level of gloss that the Engine-Kote leaves seems to vary depending on the surface. I noticed that in my wife's engine, parts like the valve-cover (plastic) and airbox came out much glossier than hoses and such. Also, the front air-dam stuff on my car didn't come out very glossy (which is good). It seems to make glossy surfaces glossier, and keep non-gloss surfaces still pretty non-glossy but darker. So, I kind of like that. It doesn't make everything glossy, nor does it make everything matte.

Out of curiosity I sprayed Engine Kote on my tires and wheels (silver, clearcoated, alloy). The tires were not that great, but the wheels were incredible. When the Kote dried it left the wheels shinier than they have ever been. I hope it can repel some of the brake dust and possibly protect them. Time will tell.

Another less expensive alternative is the CD2 engine detailing kits they sale at Autozone and such. They have a can of aerosel degreaser and a can of engine kote type spray. The kits are only around $7.00 and work excellent.

please read this thread

please read this thread...

maybe i did something wrong but the engine kote came out aweful.. :( sprayed it on and waited but it was very spotty and ran all over the place

had to re apc the plastic covers on the ls400 and coat with Armor all (it's all we had)

Will this product cause problems with older engines that use V-belts? In other words will the belts start sqealing due to being coated with this stuff?

BTW laynlow, that engine looks awesome after your treatment.:up

Thanks! I did not purposely spray the belt, but I didn't worry about it either. I think the pulleys would wear off any product that dried on the belt very quickly.

I was concerned about the raw aluminum valve covers. Mine pitted very bad after using Zep Orange Degreaser. So I put some of the APC+ on a peice of aluminum I had hanging around the garage. I left it on full stregenth for 2 weeks. It dried but wiped off with a damp towel. There was some discoloration but not much and this was removed with a quick wipe of Mothers Mag Polish. I have been using APC+ (diluted 6 to 1) on my wheels with good results. Great stuff. Found it at a local auto body supply place, they had to order it. I am going to get the engin kote next week.

I have tried to find Meguiars APC+ in the Chicago area without success. I spoke to Meguiars and they offered to sell it to me directly but I would have to purchase four gallons of the stuff. Does anybody know a place to buy it locally?

Thanks

Check with automotive refinish distributors in your area. Finishmasters, and places that sell automotive paint should carry the line. If they carry Meguiars they should be able to get it.

I've been using Aerospace 303 on my Engine Comparptment, would Engine Kote be any better than the 303? I was thinking that the 303 would better condition the rubber and plastic parts better any one have any thoughts?

All the opinions and surveys i've read say that the Aerospace 303

is the best tire finish on the market. I just ordered some.

I'll let you know what I think, if it ever stops raining.

Engine-Kote is probably easier to apply because you just spray it. You don't have to wipe or anything. Also, the E-K dries to a hard surface. It isn't sticky and won't attract dust. This is probably the nicest feature of it. And it is fine on metals and such, 303 may not be, especially on the painted stuff. As far as reconditioning, it's an engine bay. I think you'll find the plastics are much more durable than interior plastics. Also, they aren't exposed to sunlight or UV. And rubber parts will wear out from use well before they wear out from lack of conditioning. I would think 303 would be a waste of good product in an engine bay. E-K does a great job, and is useful for wheelwells too. It's also really durable (probably provided it isn't exposed to rain). I put it on half of a trash can when I first got it, and it's still there. That was like 4 months ago.

I'm sure 303 is just fine, but if you want to save a bit of money and get easier application, I'd try the Engine-Kote. It'll last you forever. You may want to consider the Meguiar's spray bottle and spray head too. The bottle has the E-K instructions, safety info and such, and the spray head is excellent. Plus, both together are under $4.
