can you put on too little KSG ?

ive been building layers of klasse sealant glaze over aio this week, i think maybe ive got the application somewhere close

ive been using a mf covered sponge pad , that i first mist with distiled water , then i use approx 1 whole cap full to do the whole car(mid size,vw golf) i use a mf misted with water to remove it and its pretty easy

makes me wonder if im putting enough on??

Yes, it can be easy if you use the wowo method and apply it super thin, as it appears you are doing. Usually the problem is putting on too much SG. As long as it buffs off as easily as you imply, you are probably doing it right. Just be sure your layers are spaced about 12-24 hours apart. Some people say you can layer SG right away but I would rather see it cure a bit before putting on another coat.

yep , im leaving 24hrs between coats , and covering the car to keep it clean

im not sure i can say i notice a differance between 1 and 3 coats?? one more to go and i'll say its done

I put on three coats of SG after two coats of AIO. Only reason I use two applications of AIO is just to be sure I did not miss anything. I agree that it is hard to tell the difference between coats of SG. I have a billet silver truck and so I do it not so much for looks but durability. People far more into this than I have tried various numbers of SG coats, up to six for one guy I read about, and the general consensus is that three coats is the most practical number. After that it reaches a point of diminishing returns and not worth the effort. Perhaps on darker colors it might make a difference but like I say, I've only used it on silver.

does just over a cap full sound about right for a meduim size car?

I have never measured by the cap full. All I do is as the instructions state and put a dab (about nickel size or so) on the moist applicator pad. I suppose a cap full is about right for a medium size car.

I hope your not applying that whole cap to the applicator at once.

erm no :nervous:

although i have found the nickel size not enough for the first few applications....ive sprayed a little water onto the pad , and made a x on the pad for my first wipe, then as the pad gets a nice spread of product a smaller spot is enough to keep going

I use a dime size to start, with a damp applicator. I do not dampen after that. If anything I use less than a dime when 3 quarter of the car is done. On my third coat I see my mettalic flake pop like others here told me it would.

In my experience that's still a *LOT* more than you need. I'm always raving about how the KSG on my minivan lasts forever (so I know I'm getting enough on there) and I use a fraction of that amount. Yeah, a lot less than that for a minivan

I applied 6 coats of SG before winter. I used the WOWO method. The amount I applied per coat was so little you could hardly even tell anything was going on, which seems to be the correct way from what I read on here.

according to one of the Klasse dudes, it should be applied and left on for about 8 hours. He said that he will apply it in the evening doesn't buff it off until the next morning. It should come right off with little effort, which to me sounds like there should be some hazing. I guess that's when you know you have applied enough. No hazing, not enough.

My method:

I don't use Klasse SG without a bottle of Sonus Acrylic spritz. I apply the AS to the applicator pad and I spray my towel with as well. I will pour a dime size drop onto each panel and QUICKLY sread it all over the panel. Wait 8 hours (if garaged) and then wipe off. If its not garaged wait until you've done the whole car. If its hard to remove and you've got streaking, you have used too much KSG.

This where the Sonus Acrylic Spritz comes in very handy. Just cover the whole panel and the streaking disappears.

I once did 30 applications in 30 days.

but nowadays I'm going to quit after 2 applications and give Poorboys EX with Carnauba a once over top with a few applications of S100. For maintenance its all Finish Kare (FX100 and 425)

30 applications of KSG and a couple of S100

30 applications!!!!!!! seriously did you notice a differance after say 5,10,20 coats??

well with my application its wiping off good, so i think im close to right..i cant see that i could put much less on without the pad being dry

well the car didn't look like that^ after only 6 applications! (my usual amount)

and tell you the truth it hasn't had that glassy a finish since I did that many.

I didn't notice a big difference until the 3rd week going into the 4th week.

p.s.

I timed it perfectly because a few weeks later the weather the winter snow and rain returned.

so how do you suggest i get around the car in less than a capfull? i though i was being frugal with it!

obviously a fair bit soaks into the pad so thats wasted

Actually, not all that much soaks into the pad (or if it does, it dries so I don't notice it).

I hold the pad over the top of the bottle and shake. This deposits a drop of SG on the pad. Then I move the pad and shake again. Rub the pad to distribute the SG. Repeat until the pad is just barely damp. Apply to panel, then repeat the shaking bit as needed to just barely keep the pad slightly moist. Probably sounds like a huge hassle, but it doesn't seem like it when I do it, and being able to easily wipe off the (very thin) application of SG makes it worth it for me. FWIW, I usually let it dry overnight before buffing it off and I fog the panels with my breath when buffing, usually with a suede-style MF.
