Can LSP's protect against wash induced marring?

Yeah, I oughta type it up and update my Non-marring Wash Technique thread.

Bert31 covered it quite well. The idea is "dislodge and flush" as opposed to "scrub". I never let wash media contact the paint without the foamgun output (more suds than foam) being sprayed at the point of contact.

How often I rinse the BHB depends on how dirty things are. With my boosed water pressure the foamgun will rinse the BHB out pretty well all on its own, at least when the vehicle isn't very dirty..but better to rinse more often than necessary.

I'd be using a pressure washer for a prewash if it weren't for the overcrowded shop; I can't have overspray going everywhere as there are (clean) vehicles parked (too) near the wash bay.

I blow most of the water off with the AirWand and spray QD on each panel before doing the final drying, which I do very gently with very soft WWs; I oughta blot but I seldom do.

Thanks Accumulator. I assume you are using your BHB without the handle. Also, when agitating the surface with the BHB are you pulling the BHB towards you in one direction only as you shoot the foam at the point of contact? So if I understand correctly if you were to wash a 2x2 section you would start at the top agitating as you move the BHB towards your self for 2 feet shooting foam at the point of contact stop, go back to where you started then move down the length of the BHB and repeat. Is this correct?

Yeah, no pole/etc. on my BHBs.

I basically jiggle it in mostly straight front-to-back lines but I also move it a bit up/down. I probably overlap my passes by about 50%.

I dunno...I'm not all *that* rigid in how I use it and I've found that as long as I keep spraying the foam along the whole length of the BHB (kinda tricky at first), keep using the interrupted jiggling motions, and keep the pressure very light, it's not that big a deal.

When using the mitt, I do the same thing but I fill the mitt with wash solution, hold it shut at the cuff and rinse/refill as soon as all the shampoo seeps out.

If something doesn't come off with these very gentle methods, I use Sonus green clay and then rewash the area.

That's great, thanks. My foamgun has just been ordered from Autogeek. It'll take a week or so to get to Canada though :sadpace:.

I think a fresh coat of LSP will definately create a barrier for a certain amount of micromarring from occuring. I've had instances where a rough cotton towel wouldn't harm my freshly waxed finish, but did when it wasn't protected.
