Can I Layer S100?

Just bought some S100, and I like it a lot. I think that is my preferred "wax" on my silver car. My question is, can I leyr it to enhance the looks of it? If I do so, how long am I supposed to wait in between coats?

This is my plan:

VM, #7 or RMG, S100*3

Any tips would be appreciated! Thank you!

S100 is canauba wax and is not suitable for layering (you can re-apply to wax missed spots at the first try). Sealant (such as Klasse SG) is known for layering.

I was wondering about that myself. I think you're supposed to put on a second coat for the sole purpose of making sure you cover any spots you missed with the first application. I know Pinnacle claims you can layer their waxes, but I also keep reading about how the solvents in the wax pretty much dissolves the first layer. Personally, I think your idea of three layers of S100 is overkill, but if you think three layers will give you a better look, then that's all that is important.:)

Since it doesn't have any cleaners, I would think you could layer it. I am unsure of the benefits of doing so, but it's just fun to put on a wax like S100; like spreading warm butter on toast. mmmmmmmmm...toast

Never used VM or RMG(Don't even know what RMG stands for!), so I don't know. I did layer S100 over Blackfire once. Didn't really notice much of a difference. I thought you were going the FMJ route.

With S100 you don't have to wait to layer it, but I doubt you are gonna get much from doing it more than 2 layers. Yes S100 has no cleaners so it can be layered. The whole debate about layering is some what funny, as I don't see how any product can be layed on top of one other 10 times. Come on do you think you're gonna get a Ziano layer as thick as your clearcoat. Sooner or later the product is not adhering or either the new product is wiping off the old one. I say 2 layers max for any product.

I don't think it will taste as good.:p

RMG= Red Machine Glaze ( from Clearkote ) RMG or VM ( Vanilla Moose also from Clearkote) would make for a nice base when topped with S100. And YES........you can layer S100, Souveran, P21S, BWW etc. These waxes contain no cleaners, so layering is possible. I often layer quality carnaubas ( alllow 24 hours between coats ) with great results. I find that most people who don't achieve great results layering carnaubas are using the wrong products. Not a good idea to layer a carnauba containing cleaners. It will remove some of the previous layer.

well, those are my two options. FMJ or S100.

The thing is, I am going to be going away for 4 months (Army) and I know that my wife is not going to care for the car the way I do. She will be using the local "Self Wash - Car Wash" (no brush, she knows I will kill her...)

I just don't want to feel like I am wasting the FMJ... Know what i mean? What is your opinion on this situation?

First off.....Thanks for your service to our great Country!!

Secondly....I'd recommend going with a Synthetic Sealant such as FMJ, Zaino, Klasse, Upp If you're gonna be away for 4 months. I'd also try to get your wife to hand wash your car while you're away.

If you're going to be gone for four months and will be relying on your wife to care for the car, I would definitely not go the S100 route. The protection will be long gone before you get back. I don't know how long FMJ lasts, but it will definitely last longer than S100. If you have Zaino, I would highly recommend that instead because it's durability has been proven. In any case, a sealant is definitely the way to go. Do you have any of the Blackfire left? It's pretty durable. Does the car get garaged everyday? If it does, any sealant will do, but I still wouldn't do S100, especially if your wife will be taking it through the carwash.

BlkTac05: Are you married? If you are, have you been able to get your wife to wash your car for you and the way you want it washed? If you have, then you're a far better man than any of us here!:bow

Hey Term.........

Not married......I'm 36 & single.........Can't seem to find a women who can put up with my detailing quirks! (lol) However, I might suggest to anyone who attempts to ask their wife/girlfriend to "gently hand wash "our" car/truck, to do so by starting it with....." If you loved me...." (lol) Or you could remind her of your answer to this little ditty...... When she says to you...." Does this make me look fat????" (LOL)

I have been using S100 for a few years now. I find that it gets me about 2 to 3 months of protection. The first month the beading is INCREDIBLE. Probably one of my favorite waxes for beading! It is easy to use, just wipe on and wipe off. As far as layering, I wouldn't. I have tried it and I didn't notice any improvement. If you are going to layer it, I would wait a month or so. After about a month it loses its protection a little anyways so layering it at this time will boost the protection. I just received a sample of S100 mixed with Natty's that I cant wait to try.

well, I was hoping on using the S100 in layers for more durability. I figured that would last longer.

Also, I have no problem leaving her with a $15 wax as opposed to a $40 sealent detail.

Plus, I have some old Meguiar's Quik Wax spray that she could use to keep up the appearance, and add a littkle bit of life to the S100. What do you think?

I am leaning towards the S100 and levaing her with some EO Wipe-N-Shine and the Megs Quick Wax.

Pros? Cons? Opinions?

Thanks Guys!

IF a carnauba can be layered at some point you reach a point when doing so becomes counterproductive-in otherwords-the carnauba isn't 100% optically perfect and at some point your going to lose paint clarity- for protective measures I'd recommend a sealant as well-do a couple coats for good measure

Well, the S100 is going to be the route I go. I guess I am being lazy, since I already have 1 coat on it now.

Now, I just need to figure out if I should add some Glaze over this coat and then finish it off with another layer of S100.... hmmm...

Lastly, should i have the wife maintain it with Meg's Quick Wax?
