Can Aquapel be applied to the Diamondite Shield?

Blkz28conv's post today about the Diamondite Shield reminded me to ask something I've been wondering.

Would applying Aquapel over the Diamondite Shield provided added water repellancy or would it just be a waste, or lead to bonding problems?

I'm assuming the Diamondite might provided more protection from chips. and scratches and the Aquapel the most water repellancy?

Any feedback appreciated. Thanks.

Actually- I was just thinking of that. I've noticed that the Diamondite does really well at reducing glare from windshield pitting when in direct sunlight. What I'm wondering is if the Aquapel would hold the Diamondite in place to reduce the pitting glare.

Looks like good news for that Aquapel over Diamondite idea. Aquapel contains petroleum distillates. Here's what Diamondite says about them:

Bill,

Thank you for contacting Diamondite. Products containing petroleum

distillates will not adversely affect the performance of the base

polymer

in Diamondite Shield. Only products containing acetone based products

will

remove the polymer. (Fingernail polish remover is a good example of a

product containing acetone.)

Please let me know if I can help further,

I just spoke to Bryan via his admin. She called him on his cell phone. Bryan stated there should not be an issue with applying Aquapel over Diamondite. There should not be a bonding issue. However, this hasn't been tried to his knowledge. Any brave soul want to step up to the plate? I've got Aquapel but not Diamondite.

I've got both (my Diamondite clay and shield came in today) and I have Aquapel at home. The only thing that I can think of is how long should I let the Diamondite cure before hitting it with Aquapel?

I didn't ask about cure time. Sorry. I'd give Bryan a call. Diamondite appears to be a small company who's very responsive. Byran's the owner.

Let us know how this turns out. The Colorado Dept of Transportation put a lot of gravel, OOPS!, I mean sand on the roads in the winter. So, our windows get pitted quick. If Diamondite can help prevent those and Aquapel can clear the snow and rain off, it's be a great combination. That is until one of the rocks, OOPS! I mean grains of sand, cracks our windshields. The average life span for a windshield here is about 3 years.

Yikes!!!

I really hope this combo works then. I'm considering leaving the Diamondite on for 1 week before putting on the Aquapel.

Bryan called back. Nice guy. We talked about skiing for a while. Anyway, he spoke to their head chemist. There should not be a bonding issue. I ask about the cure time. Bryan said the polymer instanctely cure on the glass.

Bill D, do I see a project for your weekend?

Be sure guys that you read the directions careful. The curing of Diamondite sealant requires the moist wipe down prior to final buffing. This polymer's curing is activated by H2O. When I first used Diamondite, Bryan emphasized this step.

Have fun and let me know how it turns out. :wavey

Hey Bill

Did you try out Aqualpel over Diamondite this past weekend? If so, how did you do it and what were the results?

Diamondite Shield applied just fine, didn't put the Aquapel on yet so there wouldn't be a chance of bonding issues.

Sorry guys- I said I was going to do this too but I got home and only had 1 container of Aquapel left, so I didn't want to remove what was on the windshield in case of a bonding issue. I really love the aguapel esp since it reduces glare from those orange soduim highway lights.

I'm waiting for my other order to come in....
