i have a 2000 red z71 silverado. my problem is i work at a chemical plant where we produce acid and acidic products. sometimes this acid gets in the air and will get on our vehicles. we know it does because it smears on our windshields and sometimes our cars are covered in white powder. when i see this i wash my truck as soon as i get off work and then within a couple of days try to re-wax.what is the best way to protect my trucks paint. washing that much might be overkill but i m not taking any chances after what happened to my other truck.

That sounds kind of ominous...I would try a soap that is a bit higher in alkaline to neutralize the acid, then start going crazy with the synthetics: Klasse AIO & SG, Zaino, Megs #20 etc, etc...you could follow with a heavy wax like #16 but I don't think any carnuaba based product will hold up to acid for very long.

Under these circumstances, I don't think it's possible to wash your truck "too much." Acid can work VERY FAST. A very real concideration would be to use a car cover at work, and wash that weekly to prevent massive acid buildup on it...GOOD LUCK!
 
Another nasty place to park is at the airport... the byproducts of jet fuel exhaust are quite damaging to automotive finishes.

Many pilots drive a 'beater' just for parking at 'work'

Personally, I would get a car cover and use it while you park at work to try and prevent the fall-out from getting on your car and sitting there all day.
 
I agree:D I'd get a Nylon car cover (disposable after a month or so) and wash as often as needed.
You are definitely fighting a losing battle and a beater or a Pinto (:lmfao ) could save you a lot of aggrivation.

Why all this hate for the Pinto today? I may have to bring back my avatar just to show they can shine too!
 
You can find a beater car or truck for just 2 or 3 hundred I'll bet. Even if it costs a little more than that and a few more bucks for minimal insurance you'll have peace of mind that you are not screwing up your good truck and it may be saving you a lot of $$$ in the long run by not screwing up the finish on the good truck.

I have a nice truck and I got an old Ford truck, really a BEATER for $300. It's saved me a lot of wear and tear on the good truck and and don't have to use the good truck in bad weather AND I dont' have to use the good truck as a truck.....as in hauling hay to the south 40!.......or somthun.

If you must keep on driving your good truck then I agree that there is no such thing as washing it tooo often. Maybe even the spray wax at the car wash is a good idea? Anything to have a coat of something between the stuff in that air at work and the paint.

Where can one find such a heapie cheapee nylon car cover that will cover my truck?
 
I think that Budge carries one..I know i had one for my 67 Caddy and it saved me from a lot of sap and bird bombs:D

ps..do not put it in the dryer at high heat:bigscream :(
