Calling All Who Get 70 psi Out of Their Steamers

I am absolutely torn between buying the Tosca or Hill Injection from Dupray. It's driving me nuts. The Tosca gets 72.5 psi while the Hill Injection gets 121 psi. The Tosca runs $996 and the Hill injection at $2299. I am looking for some real positive feedback for any steam owners that get atleast 70 psi. I do only one car a day 5 days a week. The steamer would only be used for interiors and engine bays. My two concerns are: would 72 psi be powerful enough to tackle an engine bay and would it be powerful enough to make a big difference on heavily soiled carpets/leather seats? I could live with shelling out a grand and while $2299 is crazy, I think I could make it work but sure would set me back. I know this topic has been covered before but any extra input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

More psi is better. Yeah, IMO you *will* notice/appreciate the diff. My Daimer is rated at 89psi and I sure wouldn't mind quite a bit more.

How is the psi rating determined? I'm assuming its when the single hole steam attachment is on right? Even with lots of PSI I don't find the bigger machine to be adequate for heavily soiled engines or interiors, but its excellent for light surface cleaning and some spot cleaning. When the large triangle attachment is being used I don't really notice a difference between higher PSI machines and something like the VX5000.

My Daimer is much more effective with those big attachments than my "lesser" steamer. Again, I sure wouldn't want less, sure wouldn't mind more.

I'm still on the fence! Unfortunately, the bank will make or brake my decision. I am going in next week for a loan. Based on what they give me will determine which model I buy. I'll let you guys know which one I end up with.

Would like to know why you are selling too. I requested a demo for these machines but Dupray said they don't do demos in my area.

You want/need a steamer so badly that you're willing to borrow $ to get it?

Using it for engine compartments and interiors, at the rate of five cars per week, I dunno if I could justify it. Well, actually I know that *I* could not justify it, but then I'm awfully debt-averse and I don't find the steamer to be the wonder-tool that others do.

My business is growing. A steamer is one of many things on the list. But that's not the point of this thread.

Ive had the vx5000, the optima and currently the Hill Injection. I would say the vx5000 or something cheaper with similar features and invest your money elsewhere. I don't do engines though, not enough requests. You can probably get away with it on the vx5000.

I think you are right. The more videos I find on youtube, I am finding more and more people that are getting away with 70psi. I have even seen the trashed minivan video with the vx5000. I am just scared not having enough power when I need it (ie greasy engine bays, greasy door jambs, caked on tar, etc.)

I wouldn't use the steamer for things like caked-on tar, neither of mine would work nearly as well as a good solvent. Maybe it's just me; I don't use a steamer for all the jobs that others do :nixweiss

Eh, 70psi is less than my Daimer puts out, and I'm not a Pro doing really nasty jobs, but I still sometimes wish it were more potent. I kinda wonder whether all the people saying they don't need more power might be, uhm...hesistant to say that their steamer isn't all that ;) Not saying you won't be perfectly happy with that level of performance, but I'd hate for you to drop big money for something that didn't cut it for you.

Are your jobs mobile? If so do you have a large van or truck? I didnt like the optima for mobile but it was awesome when people brought their cars to me since I had mine in a smaller van. Honestly if you can afford it and really want power the optima is the way(I didn't like it as much for interiors as th vx though). Man that thing packs a punch. If your having a hard time choosing between the hill injection and the vx, I say the vx(or something else with similar specs. The hill injection I can do without... Should have invested my money elsewhere..

Lol sorry about that. If your doing one car a day you can probably just use the difference between the vx and the hill injection to market your services. The vx lasted me an entire job just as long as I filled it up at the start of a job. $1000-$1400 difference depending on where your getting it from is a good amount to invest elsewhere. I bought my hill injection thinking I could use it for exterior washes... Its doable but too time consuming... If you really want the hill injection see if you can find a discounted one on feebay. If I could do it over again I would have just kept the vx.

So I ended up going with the Dupray Tosca (73 psi, 316 degrees). I took your advice jose206. The Tosca was $996 while the hill injection is $2299. I figure I'm going to use atleast $700-$800 that I would have used on the hill injection on SEO and marketing. The main reason I went with the Tosca is because of this video: STEAM CLEANING MOM'S MINIVAN (2) - YouTube. If 65 psi can get results like that, then I should be happy with the Tosca. It should be here Friday, I'll let you guys know my thoughts!

Good choice. I didn't click on the video but im guessing its from superiorshine. Awesome video. You should definitely be satisfied with your purchase. I should have done the same myself...
