Buying pads, polish, and backing plate, any advice?

Hi,

I know there are a million posts about this but I have a question that I haven't been able to answer myself :2thumbs:

I recently got a Porter Cable 7336, and I'm going to buy some pads. Right now I'm looking at:

Sonus SFX-3

and

Sonus SFX-2

I have medium to light swirls on my white Grand Prix, which is the main reason I'm buying these pads, and also will be doing some general work here and there for other people. But here's my main question, so far I haven't been able to find out which backing plate I should use. I've done a lot of searching but never found a clear answer... Do I get the 6 inch flex plate or the 5 inch one so that I have somewhat of a safety margin? (By the way this is the first time I'll be using a PC). And will I need a new counterweight for the PC?

As far as polishes I'm thinking about the corresponding SFX ones, and I'm also going to get some XMT pad conditioner.

So what do you guys think? I'm willing to consider other pads/polishes etc. Also, I've heard a lot of people like zaino polishes, so I'm willing to consider that too.

Opinions please... lol

Thanks!

The 7336 comes with a 6 counterweight which can be used with the 6" backing plate. With the 6" backing plate you want to stick with the 6.5" pads.

If you want to go with the 5" backing plate then you need a new 5 counterweight and your pad choice can be the 5.25" pads from Danase or 6" pads.

Or you can say to hell with all this backing plate nonsense and get the Edge 2000 system kit with reversible pads.

I think you should "search"

the counterweight were sized for a peice of sandpaper

and have nothing to do with the foam pads

some people think the 6" counter weight will help a little

but he has the 6" already

to the OP question I like the backing to be a little smaller

than the pad or the edge system as yal said
