Buy no GAS on Sept 1

yeah, i guess i won't be buying gas on Sept. 1. of course that is when Hawaii's and the nation's 1st Gas Cap comes into affect, and where it is speculated that the prices will actually increase due to the Hurrican Katrina. :furious:

It has already started to increase b/c of the hurricane.

Too many refineries and oil production facilities have been damaged or have had their production hampered because of the storm.

Those who think that not buying gas on Sept. 1 will make the oil companies lower prices.. think again. It would just mean an extra days supply, or a chance to make a killing selling it on the spot market... on September 2nd, prices will be the same or higher.

Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it.

Wrong. Gas rationing does not work and was a disaster in the 80s and the 70s.

The best thing we can do to lower gas prices is to consumer more gas at higher prices which gives more incentive to develop supply. Secondly, we can drill more in the Gulf and ANWR.

This NEVER works. It has been done in the past. The Only way gas prices MIGHT...and again that is MIGHT Come Down is everybody drives less on a regular basis...but this has an adverse affect on the economy also.

The smartest thing you can do right now is try to keep a full tank of gas at all times and gas up often to keep it that way. I purchased gas yesterday...just topped off with about 4 gallons at $2.71/gal. This morning it was $2.99/gal at the same station....and it is only going to get alot worse.

Gas prices EXPLODED today. As I was driving, nearly every gas station was changing their prices. Regular is now $3 and above per gallon in Jersey. Some places still had it in the $2.90's.

This happened OVER NIGHT! :scared:

Boycott all you want for a day but it ain't gonna do diddily.

We may end up with involuntary gas rationing if supply does not meet demand...It is sadly a REAL possibility. The Gulf Coast Oil Refineries took a major hit from Katrina.

Gas went up 38 cents a gallon between yesterday morning and this afternoon. Not much you can do when refineries are already running at 98% capacity and you lose 4 of them. It isn't a supply problem, it is a refining problem. Not only have we built no new refineries in the last 15 years or so, but we have so many regional blends in the summer that it makes it cost more to turn oil into gas. What we need is more refineries and one or two summer gasoline blends.

I filled up with regular unleaded gas at a local station yesterday, and it was $2.58 a gallon (which was cheap for the area). Today, it was $2.92 a gallon ... yikes!! And I think it's just going to go up for the next few weeks until everything switches over to the fall blend. Good thing I have a 4 cylinder :)

5 cylinders are better ;)

I saw the same thing happen, gas go from $2.51 to $2.87 I believe in 24 hours, it is at $3.17 here in town, the highest I saw at least.

At a gas station on my way to work this morning, the price of regular unleaded had jumped from $2.70 to $3.00. When I drove by the same gas station this afternoon after work, the price had jumped again to $3.30. I figured some sort of jump, but that's 60 cents in less than 48 hours. I wonder how many stations are taking advantage of the situation and engaging in some price gouging.

And it's not just gas prices that are increasing ... grocery prices are not going to be far behind as so much in the US is trucked in.

If everyone would stop buying gas at Mobil and Exxon, then there might be a chance prices would go down.

Whos with me?

Add up the amount of oil used by the airline industry, trucking, shipping, rail, military, home heating and industrial plants. Then figure up what one day of not buying gas amounts too in comparison. Beginning to see the picture? It's a drop in the bucket.

There are stories of good stations too, all the stations on my way home went from $2.59 to over 3 bucks and in some cases $3.29 overnight.

That was 3 days ago, the local Exxon around the corner is still $2.59, in fact both stations owned by this guy are the same price in town. When asked why he is almost 70 cents less than the no name station across the street he said I didn't pay any more for this fuel, I may not be able to resist raising prices next week though.

Not many people would have done that, a man of integrity indeed.

I am soooooooooo sick of hearing this! This will do NOTHING! On September first I am filling up my cars, lawn mower, snow blower, trimmer, leaf blower, and might just duct tape the handle of the pump in the open position and let it pump all over the gas station lot. LOL

hahaha that would be an awesome prank to **** over the gas station.

and if you wanted to be a real ******* you could light a match an throw it
