Bummed out

I can't believe it. Someone stole my hubcaps. I last heard about people stealing hubcaps in the 60's. I have a 1993 Volvo 850 with alloy wheels with a small hubcap in the centre, covering the bolts. Well, they don't have them anymore. They were stolen while the car was parked in the underground garage of my condo association. All four are gone. It looks really stupid now. New ones are Cdn $45, each. At least Swedish Auto is going to look for used ones in their scrap yard. I can't afford to replace them now. I'll have to replace them before winter (unless I can afford the steel wheels I want for the winter tires).

I can honestly empathize. The '88 Accord LXi has alloy wheels with plastic lug covers. I had two that had peeled and turned white from age, and two that were perfect. While in DC one night, someone stole my two "good" ones:mad:

On the upside, I was forced to go buy four new ones at the Honda place. The old ones *really* detracted from the appearance anyway. Too bad that a plastic disc 4.5" in diameter costs $60 apiece:shocked

TaxLady- Sorry to hear about that. How's the latest Volvo working out for you otherwise?

Thanks for asking. I'm getting used to it and liking it more. I miss functioning air conditioning :(, but I like the leather seats and sunroof.

I haven't had time to detail it yet. I am starting to like the car enough that I am actually getting eager :D

Spilchy, thanks for the links. Actually, the kind I need cover the lugs, so it was U$31.77 which is about Cdn$44.48 plus shipping. I'll find out how much the ones that come from the scrapyard cost.

That's one of the things I like about Swedish Auto (the place I get my Volvo serviced and where I bough it). They have their own Volvo/Saab scrapyard and always try to get me a deal.

Taxlady, I know exactly how you feel, only my centercaps weren't stolen, they decided to take all four wheels and tires Friday morning.

Sorry to hear about your loss, the wrongdoers will get what is coming to them. :(

Oh man, IndigoGTI, that sucks. I think I better get some of those locking nuts that make it much harder to steal wheels, now that I feel much less safe about my car in my communal garage. I don't know if it was a neighbour or if it was one of those kids that sneak in when someone is coming or going.

I seriously douby it was anybody that lives near you, that would be a pretty bold thing to do. Locking lug nuts are nice, but if people really want your wheels, they will get them. That, or they will get mad at you for making it so hard to take the wheels that they will damage your car.

Check for your centercaps online, I got a set for my friend's '90 Honda Accord, and they were only $24 each new online, compare that to $50 at the dealer.

sorry about that taxlady. People are real creeps anymore.....

How about this one. A few years ago, my wife and I had a Dodge grand caravan (kids and all). I took it to Winn Dixie one afternoon, parked, came out 20 minutes later, someone had stolen my driver's side WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM!!!!!!!!! No lie.

Yikes

A woman from Russia I worked with years ago told me that in Russian cities, people never left their wipers unattended.

They kept them safely locked away, and it was always mayhem if it started raining, with all the cars stopped willy nilly while the drivers leapt out to attach their prescious blades.

I know how you feel. Convicted car stereo thief Nikolas Lampkin of Fort Worth broke into my Accord about 6-7 years ago and stole the stereo. He got caught breaking into another car that night and I got my stereo back and partial restitution for the window that scumbag broke but apparently he didn't learn his lesson. When I stopped receiving the monthly check for what he owed me, I called the court only to find out he was back in jail. I sincerely hope he is on the receiving end of some serious jailhouse loving.

I hope your thief meets a similar fate.

Yikes, leather and no A/C  I'll just *bet* you miss the A/C! Good luck with the centercap search.
