Building the Ideal Car Wash?

A friend of mine is looking into building a car wash. I realize going to the carwash is not the most popular way to clean your car on these boards but sometimes we can't avoid it. If you could have your own what would you have / not have in your carwash?
 
A range of CLEAN mitts to wash the car. Two clean buckets of water one with soap one without for every car coming in.



Then a CLEAN microfibre to dry off.



Some CLEAN pads, each for their own polish.



I think you get the idea lol! Just try and keep your tools clean and contaminent free. Use people to wash the cars not, jet washes or tunnel washes. That way you could charge more.



You could offer wash and wax right through to a full detail.



But this is in an ideal world right? lol.

A water filter... ESPECIALLY if they recycle any of the wash water. It's like sandblasting the car if they don't.



On a non-detailing side, have a waiting lounge for clients with some refreshments (some free, some charge) and a TV and some chairs/couches. It will make the time go quicker.
 
Yeah, the way to make a carwash OK is to keep everything that touches the cars *clean*. Otherwise, contamination from a really dirty car can wreak havoc on all the subsequent ones. This will be much easier (i.e., possible) if you have people doing the washing/drying as opposed to machines, but dunno if that'll fit in with his plans.
 
I guess to me, it has to be touchless, though that means your car doesn't get all that clean. That's the only kind I'd even remotely consider going to. I don't think a commercial car wash could ever be that great as far as actually getting your car clean but not inducing any marring, though. It'd probably cost a fortune per wash and then they'd get like 3 customers and go under. :nixweiss
 
I saw in PCWD magazine where a manufacturer was actually making 100% sheepskin mitters for tunnel car washes. If I had to operate a tunnel car wash that is the only thing that I would consider. You would still have to rinse them after so many washes though.
 
Well, you would have to be able to watch your car go through the tunnel. Then when it gets outside dry it off with clean wafflewaves, then offering people the choice of what products/waxes were used on their car. Before it goes in get a description of what each person expects, and use dressings/polishes/waxes accordingly. (well hopefully I'll be in heaven someday lol)
 
What do you think of having two bays, one for machine wash and the second for hand wash. I have been told they are refered to as a California Wash or Bay. Do you guys have any of these in your area and if so are they successful? If you don't mind please let me know where your from.
