bug removers?

I'm looking at few of the different bug removers and was wondering what you guys suggest? I currently use Safe-D greaser from Meg, but I noticed they have a product called Sovlent that says it used to remove bugs and tar. Anyone used it?

I've never used that stuff before. My go-to product is PB's Bug Squash. It can be used in a lot of different ways, but the bugs are always gone in the end.

I've not used this one but are you looking for something over the counter or online?

PB Bug Squash is one that I like for online.

But you can get Turtle Wax, Bug Remover at any decent auto parts store, and I have found that it works great!

Which of these products remove the wax/sealant and which do not?

I think both will take off some protection, however I wouldn't focus on that as the acid in the bugs has already done that and you should / need to reapply that some protection, even if its just the bumper areas..IMO

Hey, long time no see. How've you been??

On your question, I have not noticed a big decrease in slickness or a loss of the ability of the vehicle surface to "shed" dirt when using the Bug Squash. I don't feel that it really attacks the LSP that much, but then again, I don't have a lot of scientific proof either.

That is why if I can get to the bugs soon enough, I use Poorboys S&W and then wipe it off with a MF dampened with hot water. This works 95% of the time. Most of the bug removers I have used usually remove most, if not all of the protection ... Just wondering about some of the newer products. Nothing beats a new coat of sealant to a bumper for making it easier to remove the bugs !!

I have pretty much all the products mentioned . . .

Meguiar's Body Solvent - a great product removes bugs, tar, and tree sap with ease. It also removes wax. So, re-apply afterward. It's fairly cheap too. I think it costs around $20 for a gallon.

Poorboy's Bug Squash - a very good product which removes bugs with ease, but IME has a little trouble with tar. Also, BS makes and EXCELLENT pre-wash. It really lifts dirt from the finish so that it can be washed away and it eats road salt for breakfast. According to posts I have read from Steve BS will not remove wax.

Turtle Wax Bug & Tar remover - (Make sure you get the version that comes in the white metal can.) A very effective product but really requires copious amounts of product and a little bit of scrubbing to get best results. It's great for bugs and especially great for tree sap but it struggles with heavier amounts of tar. Definitely removes wax. So, be sure to re-apply wax after use.

I hope this helps!

Not sure but like JP said I have never felt that BS has removed all of the LSP on my cars. Steve should be here for this answer

Forgot to mention this one, but RainX has a Bug & Tar remover pre wash spray gel that worked okay. It's not in the same league with Bug Squash, but it's okay for an OTC.

when used as directed it does not remove LSP's :)

PB's Bug Squash works well as a non-harsh remover of fresh bugs, and as a lubricant-soap for using a bug sponge. I also use it as a pre-treatment at 1:3 for dirty cars.
But I don't find it just takes crusty or baked bugs off.
I was just told about using Zep Big Orange 3 parts product, 1 part very cold water. Apparantly this makes a gell, like a ClingSoy or aeresol product.

Neither do I at a 1:3 dilution. I have an old 8 oz. spray bottle I keep at full strength for tougher bugs and it hasn't failed me yet. Sometimes the 1:3 or 50/50 mix just isn't strong enough for some of the vehicles I wash.

I'll try at full strength, but even with a bug sponge we are often clay barring after a wash.

Try it full strength and give it time to sit on the bugs. Don't be afraid to spray it heavy either. Don't let it dry on the surface, but do give it time to work. I won't guarantee it will get rid of them all, but it will help tremendously.

I just picked up a trial size bottle of a bug remover called "Bugs B Gone" that is made by Sea Foam. Have any of you guys ever tried it? It sort of smells like Formula 409 or Greased Lightning, which are both all purpose cleaners, so I'm somewhat hesitant to use it. Their web site says:

"The more you use it, the easier the bugs come off. Each use leaves a residual effect, making it harder for bugs to stick and easier to remove them".

Sea Foam--Bugs-B-Gone

Anyone tried it?

I've used it in a pinch before. It did help - I would probably throw it in there with the RainX stuff. Okay for an OTC.
