Buffing

Kind of a stupid question, but, I'm curious how you guys price your buffing, like compound, polish, wax jobs. Do you Estimate or do you have a fixed price?

For me, a basic one-step and other "normal" detailing is a fixed price.  If the vehicle is neglected and will take longer than normal, I may charge extra, this is on a case by case basis.  Correction is hourly, for which I will give an estimate.

To you give you an idea; for me details that include buffing steps start at $300 and that's, more or less, a one stage buffing job which I will lightly cut and polish in one stage. The first level of paint correction that I offer starts as a 2 step which is is a light/medium cut and then a light/medium polish, starts at $400. And it only goes up from there, which is an hourly rate of $60/hr. We did a Lambo Countach with heavy paint correction which was close to a 6 step process including sealants and full exterior/interior detail; that came out to $1500. If your work compliments your price, you can almost charge whatever you want.... there are plenty of detailing company websites, from amateurs to professionals, that you'll be able to get a better idea of what you can charge.

Full paint restoration starts about $2,000.  The more I do this and the better I get, the pickier I get and the longer I put into every job. It's the last 3% of damage and the stuff on the edges that takes so long, then there's a ton of other little things that add up over a whole job. We inevitably end up doing more than we are charging for, even at $2,000. We are spending about 40+ hours on full restoration start to finish.

Entry level paint restoration begins at $1250. It provides substantial improvement and is not a fast process in of itself.

We used to offer a single polish then seal. I realized years ago that while the service hit a price point that a lot liked, I could not be proud of the work. It gave me no fulfillment. I replaced that with an all in one process that those wanting a temporary improvement can enjoy at a lower entry-level price of about $300.

In the past I have tended to offer 3 tiers of paint correction: (good / better / best)

*Clean & Shiny - 1 step / AIO

*Compound & Polish (shoot for 80% but usually goes beyond)

*Full blown defect removal (every removable defect is leveled)

But, with today's technology (i.e. Rupes & cutting polishes), these parameters/boundries are being pushed to a greater, easier extent.
