just curious who is using wool pads with foam to polish? and who is using foam for cutting and polishing? or other types of pads?

Well i guess im asking if there is foam pads that are made for cutting? i know a guy who only uses foam pads. is that wrong? im just getting back into detailing which im very good at. but not so good with buffing... so im just trying to figure out what types of pad combos people are using out there?

There are foam cutting pads but they are not as aggressive as wool. When it comes to serious correction wool is the way to go. Foam cutting pads tend to be very stiff, generate a lot more heat, and are harder to work with on curved surfaces.

Agreed. If I can't correct with an 8006 and M105 on the Makita I go to wool. Much smoother ride and less stressful!

thanks guys!! i have been using the foam pads and have found that they are really hard to work with. i also have not been getting the results either! hey where can i pick these pads up that yall are mentioning? and can you recommend the compound and glaze to get with it? thanks i really would appreciate your reply!

even better could someone pair the pads with the compounds in a pic for me that would be f!@#ing awesome!! 3m products / meguiars

Newb question to add, regarding pads.

Using a PC with the 5" LC pads, approximately how many uses can I expect assuming they are washed after each use? I know there are some variables affecting the life of the pad, just looking for a general idea on how long they'll last.

Just like you said, a lot of variables. To give you a ballpark guess is what you are looking for I assume. Ballpark, 10 cars. But that could be 5 or 30 depending on how much pressure you are using on the head of the machine. A DA is much harder on pads than the rotary due to the amount of weight you lean on it with.

To the OP:

Using a rotary you have options galore. I know Meg's products so I'll throw my 2 cents in on that line. I'm sure others can offer suggestions on other mfg. lines.

Pads:

SOLO yellow wool

8006 or 2.0 Yellow foam

Black 2.0 foam

Products:

M105

M205

#3 if you are wanting a true glaze that can be applied via rotary

M105 and M205 are SO versatile that you can accomplish almost anything from heavy correction on hard clear to finishing out on soft clears. Their is a lot of info on here on how to use both those products for the best results on this forum. So I would suggest doing some searching on them.
