Buffing pad disintergration

Bunky

Detailing Gnosis
I was cleaning out my detailing stuff and was sorting through the buffing pad and looks like some I had not used in a long time crumbled on touch. Some were like new. The primary ones were black and red foam (think these are euro foam). My guess is I did not clean them well enough so this may have accelerated the break down.

Ah Bunky, you know some foams just break down when they get old, although I suppose if they had APC residue from cleaning that might accelerate it as you say.

All of mine are in similar shape due to the Florida heat. I have quite a bit to replace if I want to polish again

I ended up tossing a bunch of foam pads that had disintegrated despite being new/unused and stored in a climate controlled area.

Coincidentally, my black foam pads *all* fell apart, while I only lost a few of the other ones. But then, these were very old pads..like, decades.

Eh, that`s where I am now :(

Age as well as heat causes them disintegrate I guess you just need new ones maybe every couple of years

I had one Meg`s black pad and I had maybe used it once. It fell apart. Most others had been used mostly for paint cleaners (black) and sealants (red).

I found two more casualties....

The Mothers Power Cone and Ball were both rarely used but over 15 yrs old. It has to be the foam itself since they crumbled when touched. Since Mother`s has a red style I am not sure it is the same foam as other red pads.

I applied an LSP today with a red pad/DA (usually have been using spray waxes) that had been used but no signs of deterioration. It seemed like the Buff and Shine made pads held up well (cyclo, Uber branded).

Interesting the preview is upside down but when clicked it is correct. I thought I had rotated it.
