Buffing a motorcycle

Just picked up a couple of bikes for son and myself and both are black so realize they will soon have there share of minor hazing and light scratches.

One is a Yamaha FZ1 and the other a Kawasaki 600 Ninja.

Can the plastic body parts be safely polished with a Flex and the appropriate compounds? I do realize not to use to much pressure on the plastic.

if you can take the parts of the bike first that would make things alot easier. you urself some 4 inch orange/white pads m105/m205 they can be tricky but the plastics parts will come bk to life

Yep that's my write up, I was going to refer him to that, but your already on top of it. the more you can take off the easier it is. and I used a 4in backing plate on a rotary and a griots garage 3in orbital. and Meguiars M105 & M205.

i have a vulcan to do wed and i was wondering, do you guys that normally do bikes dress the tires at all? i have only done either full custom choppers or street bikes. the choppers have had the tires stretched so much i didnt need any dressing and the street bikes didnt either. but this bike has some serious side walls, nothing like i have ever done. the owner of the bike said the guy who detailed it last didnt use any dressing and he kinda wanted the tires looking better. should i dress the side walls very carefully with some water based dressing or skip it? wanna make the owner happy but dont want any problems

I wouldn't apply any dressing to the tires just to be on the safe side. If the owner wants it done either have him sign a waiver or hand him the products and let him have it at. Post up some pics when you're done with it.

thanks rusty, yeah i plan on getting some good pics. i looked at the bike last week and its busted up. i dont know when the last time he got it detailed or maybe the other detailer didnt do too good a job. that thing is dirty!!

If it's still the original paint it shouldn't be too hard to work on. I just polished a '06(?) Vulcan a couple of weeks ago. I ended up using my Makita with a 3" backing plate, 4" white Erasure pad and 85rd.

yeah well this one is black and the guy is a higher up in a major car audio company. wanna do a good job, might turn into more work. i already did six of their show cars
