Just an update. I polished a few areas with Menz Super Fine and a 4" finishing pad @ 1800-2000 rpm. I'd say most of the holograms are gone and things look better, but it's still not good enough so I ordered a GG polisher.

You gotta slow those rpms down when finishing down. I usually run 1000 rpms with Super Finish, and can finish 100% hologram free.

What size pad are you using? 1000 rpm on a 4" pad is really slow.

I realized that there's actually another way to finish the car. I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but I ended up hand-polishing the car with the Menz. It's completely free of holograms now. Sometimes the solution is so simple you completely overlook it.

No need for the GG polisher anymore

I'd be pretty surprised if in a few weeks the holograms aren't back along with finger tracers from hand polishing.

And why would you try and finish out with a 4" pad? 6 1/2 to 8" pads work great for finish work.

Why would holograms return? Does Menz SF have fillers?

I prefer 4" pads because they fit the contours of the car much better. If you want the edge of a large 8" pad to touch the car with adequate pressure, that means the center is being pressed very hard. If you don't press hard enough, only one edge touches the car and the pad skips

When used by hand, a lot of polishes will fill instead of remove. The 8" waffle pad used with 3M Ultrafina is very soft and will follow the contours of all the cars I've used them on. Plus a larger pad spreads the pressure out over a larger area making them better suited for finishing work.

Menz polishes need to work thoroughly to achieve correction. By polishing with hand, more than likely you are simply covering the defects with its lubricant. It won't be obvious with the naked eye but you can try wiping the treated area with a cloth soak with shampoo and rinse it in a bucket and you will notice how much 'unworked' polish you actually left behind.

If you are using only a 4" pad, I suggest to keep the work area small(1ft x 1ft max) and use 1-2 small pea size polish.
