I recently have a small black and decker Orbital polisher. I can still get very good results but I think im ready to break down and buy a PC. Can you guys give me the low down on buffers and pads and everything else i need to know.

Thanks, Dave

I just ordered my PC from Coastal Tools! I can't wait to use it. I actually have several older vehicles in the family to practice on before using it on the nice ones!

You're going to love it. I've had mine for about a month now and did both my Navigator and my Mustang. Results were great. I even started to do my oldest daughters car and it was badly oxidized. So far the front end came out looking really nice.

This is what I look like now when I look at my cars.:D

Navi Man,

Nice work! Black looks nice as well as the white :up

Kevin, you'll love the PC! Once you get the pads/backing plate and some products, you'll ask yourself why you never got it sooner!

Be careful, now all your family/friends will ask for you to detail their cars!

Just read, better yet, print the PC articles and have them at hand when you start using it.

Have fun!

Ok so can can someone explain the difference between the 7424 and the 7336. Im also confused on the backing plate counter weight stuff. What would I need..Do u change the plate or counter weight or what.?

Thanks, Dave

The PC 7424 from www.coastaltool.com is supposed to be a package with a 6 inch counter weight and 6 inch backing plate.

The PC7336SP is a package made to sell at local stores like Lowes, hardwood stores, and various other home imporvement centers.

The PC7424 is orginally packaged with a 5 inch counter weight and 6 inch polishing pad with built one backing plate. The PC7336 is packaged with a sanding package which includes a sanding backing plate and 6 inch white polishing pad with built in backing plate.

I think Deanski outlined some posts that should have included 4DSC's post about the PC.

PC7424 from coastaltool.com and Lake Country Pads from www.topoftheline.com right now are the hot ticket.

The 7424 and 7336 are the exact same machine, but only with different options. The deal from Coastal is pretty good, but you might end up with some stuff you won't really use. I purchased mine from Lowes (mainly I was impatient and I could buy it now without having to wait for shipping). It comes with the 6" polishing pad, which will get you started. If you go the Lowes route, I would suggest getting the 6" hook and loop backing plate, 2 yellow 7.5" pads and 2 7.5" white polishing pads from Top of the Line. You might also want to get a black finish pad or two, but I prefer to do the final wax by hand. They have a special if you get 6 pads. This should set you back about $50.00 to $60.00.

If you haven't already, I would also recommend buying some microfiber towels from Ranney at PakShak. His customer service is outstanding and the product is excellent. Be sure to mention you're an Autopian member. This could be another $50.00 depending on amount of towells you purchase. I would get at least 2 dozen. You can also pcik up some cheap ones at Walamrt in the auto section for the less critical jobs. For about $200.00, you will have a setup that will last you a long time and really improve your detailing jobs. Good luck and have fun with it.:D

Yes. I used the PC with a foam polishing pad and applied it at speed 4. The P21S hide most of the swirls, Then topped it with P21S wax.

This is Yaz and I reflected off the T-bird with P21S combo.

The spot on the lower middle panel is a photo defect from film camera.

Ok I think Im getting the PC 7424 from coastal. What else in the way of pads backing plates etc. do I need. It comes with a 6" counter weight and a 6" hook and loop back.. What else do i need???

Clean Machine:

The pads mostly used by quite alot of us are the Advanced Foam pads in 7.5 inch. Here is the link: Advanced Foam Pads

The correct backing plate can also be found here as well: Backing plate for 7.5 inch pads

You really need the three: Yellow, White and Grey.

Or you can also get these "Finger" pads which work very well with the PC: Finger foam pads for the PC

These too are 7.5 inch, so the backing plate mentioned above works with both types.

As for care, after polishing, wash in warm water by hand with some Dawn or other cleaners such as Megs APC+ in a bucket used just for cleaning pads. Work the soapy water though them one at a time and rinse often, then let them sit in the pail overnight if possible. Rinse really well and squeeze as much water out of them. Let them air-dry. Do NOT use a washing machine for pads, the velcro will start to seperate from them.

Once you have your first set of pads and find the best polish that works for you, I then dedicate one pad per product. I wash them, dry and store in a ziplock bag and mark each pad what I use on it.

Enjoy the PC, you'll love this thing!

I went with the backing pad and pads from Top of the Line:

http://www.topoftheline.com/porcabvelpad.html

It's $5.00 cheaper than CMA and is a very nice hook and loop backing pad. The buffing pads are also cheaper, as they sell the Lake Country pads and you can get 6 for $45.00. I would get 2 yellow, 2 white and 2 gray. Very good service and quick shipment. At the time I ordered, the white pads were on back order, but they shipped them out a week later at theri shipping expense.:D :xyxthumbs
