no over the counter stuff? do you have to do everything over the net?
It's difficult to find everything you need to do a proper detail over the counter (OTC). Unless of course you live in Florida or California. There seem to be a lot of detailing shops there that you could get your supplies from face-to-face. Many of this site's sponsors are located in Florida.

I think you could probably get away with ordering only your pads & velcro backing plate on-line. As previously mentioned the PC is available at your local Lowe's and you could probably source your polishes, waxes, etc. from your local auto parts store. However, the real "premium" detailing supplies are tough to find locally. So, if you're a real fanatic about your car you'll need to order your supplies on-line. You can usually find better prices on-line anyway and you can save on sales tax (if you live in a state that has it).

My feeling is that everyone was discouraging him from spending the money on the Wal-Mart buffer because it offers very little to absolutely no advantages over doing everything by hand.

I myself had the Sears version many, many years ago and I wish there had been someone around to tell me not to bother. Although, I do still use the 5 gallon bucket that came with it to wash my car. So, I guess it wasn't all bad. ;)

Agreed. I wish I had my twent-five clams back from all those years ago. :)
