I was at wal mart today and saw a 6'' orbital buffer for like 21.99, is this thing any count for doing like my car and my families? Or is it junk? any help appreciated.

Don't waste your money. The only thing that its good for is spreading a LSP. And being a giant paperweight.

If you are not going to depend on it to feed your family, it will probably work fine. Especially to just apply and take off wax. If you are looking to do anything more than that ( oxidation, swirls, scratches ) it won't cut it.

Agree True. But if he is using it just for LSP, why spend the extra money for features he will never need. I am all about saving money. My wife calls me cheap. I say I am just frugal.
But she doesn't call me cheap when I send in the monster payment on her H2 every month! :)

Does it have two handles and one speed? If it's one or the other or both save your money. IMHO

Guys I see your points, but if he is only using this as a weekend toy why not spend the 20 bucks. What the hell. If he finds he really enjoys the work, and wants to take the next step then he can upgrade as needed.

magic do you have any messangers so we can talk detailing? MOST of the time when i post i get smartarse answers thought this forum would be good to ask questions but who knows?

This is a great site to post. And to get answers. Most folks I have dealt with here are very knowledgable folks. I am a rookie here, but have been in the business for 16 years. If I thought this place sucked, I would not frequent it. Too many smug a-holes at some of the other "unmentioned" sites. I have forgotten more about detailing than most of them will ever know.
But a good mix of amateurs and pros here.
If you'd like send me a private message if you feel a question may be ridiculed. But I highly doubt that will happen here.

My feeling is that everyone was discouraging him from spending the money on the Wal-Mart buffer because it offers very little to absolutely no advantages over doing everything by hand.

I myself had the Sears version many, many years ago and I wish there had been someone around to tell me not to bother. Although, I do still use the 5 gallon bucket that came with it to wash my car. So, I guess it wasn't all bad. ;)

I never thought of it that way! I've been using that bucket for 13 years and I think I only paid $40 maybe $60 for it. I feel so much better now. :D

I think a number of us had 1 or 2 of them, I still got one it's collecting dust but I have it.
Like I said in another thread it's the next step many will look to take, but like Mikey said there was no one there to tell me otherwise, so I used it, now I know better.

You'll find the members here rather pleasant and helpful and not looking to ridicule.
If you have a lowes near you you should be able to find a PC 7336 for around $100 then you can check with our sponsors to see about getting set up with pads for it, or just look to get a whole package from one of them you will find them to be very helpful.

Good Luck and Happy Holidays
