Buff Marks on hood after clean/polish/wax?

So I finally had some time on a weekend and broke out the meguiars deep crystal 3 step system for my 07' OBP (black) WRX. I did all the work in the garage to avoid the direct sunlight and when I backed it out I noticed what appeared to be buff marks on the hood. I used the same 3 products and applicator pads (one for each, obviously) on the whole car but only see the marks on the hood. I wasn't using much pressure with the paint cleaner or the polish as the car only has 7,200 miles on it and I was only trying to remove some of the swirls that (I think) were picked up while sitting on the lot at the dealer. Should I just go back over the hood with the 3 products or could it be something else? I haven't had this happen before so I'm not really sure what to do for it. Thanks!

Where you using a machine? If so what machine? Chances are you only saw them on the hood because the sun was hitting the hood only or chances are the hood was just in worse shape.

No machine, all by hand and the light was on the roof and trunk the same way and no marks...

Take a good QD and spray over the car. This seems to help when I have waxed.

Buy a machine polisher, and then go over the hood again. Your hood will look so good, it will probably make you want to do rest of the car too!

I just used the megs deep crystal paint cleaner along with some other products. I was underwhelmed with the performance of the paint cleaner. Even with a PC and a white pad, it basically did no more cleaning than a normal wash/clay. I expected it to do a little oxidation removal but didn't see any significant deposit of pigment or dirt on the pad. I also used megs swirl removal (grade 3 of 10 correcting ability) and it definitely removed some oxidation but not all of it - even with the orange LC pad and 5 on the PC.

Based on the above experience, I'm definitely switching to other polishes and cleaners recommended on this site next time I place an order. I'll likely try a wool pad with a more aggressive polish as well.

What I'm suggesting is that the swirls may predate your use of the paint cleaner (during the wash/dry or earlier). I wouldn't expect the deep crystal line to do much correction for you, especially applied by hand. RG
