Breaking into houses made easy?

That's nuts! I guess one thing you could do is a by a Springfield or Glock? LOL But a lot of good that does if you are not home.

Yea it is, but if thieves want in, they'll get in. I just appreciate how there is indeed at least this level of free flow of information so that we are at least aware of it.

We are essentially insecure... we just like to pretend we are. I guess the only thing you can do is learn to defend yourself using force.

Wow. It's scary what the bad guys know and we don't. I have NEVER heard of that before today.

I suppose a lot of people don't know this sort of stuff..you gotta seek out a lot of the knowledge that IMO people oughta have. Spending time with security experts really does give you a  !OMG! perspective on the limits of personal security (and in our case it got us to make some changes in various areas).

I've seen those before - a friend of the family is a locksmith. He has a whole set of different keys modified into bump keys, he tries those out before picking the lock as it is generally faster and easier.

The fact of the matter is, you can't keep your house completely safe. A good homeowners policy for when you're away and a good firearm for when you're home is about the best you can do.

Yeah, scary that this is popping up on news stations all around the country. We just had one televised, or about to be televised. Not to mention, a friend of mine just had someone try to lock bump his house.

Smashing a window has always been popular, these things cost money, the crackheads are not going to be buying something that costs as much as a rock. Bricks/Rocks are still free. A dog and or GOOD (read not installed by your average goober) alarm is the only safe bet when you aren't home.

So true :( If somebody wants in, they'll get in.

Plus an appropriately good security system and more than one well-trained K9. Won't make your place invulnerable, but with any luck it'll make it too challenging to bother with (what with all the easier pickings out there to victimize instead).

Well, IMO I don't think a security system provides any type of "security" unless we're talking about robotic guards :chuckle:

By the time they call your house, then send a private security car, the thieves will have been long gone.

I don't want people to have a false sense of security from some half-[baked] system, and I agree that some are just burglary-announcers. But it's a matter of how serious you want/need to get about it.

Not to get into details, but there are systems that can be relied upon to do more than page a security company and when certain places get broken into, the people responding get there mighty fast and ready for trouble. Also, if you've adequately considered such events and planned accordingly, breaking in is the easy part ;)
