Brand New IS350 Help *LONG READ*

I hate to add another product into the mix, but how about the Jeff Werkstatt products? I am pretty new to this hobby as well, but I am in the same boat (seeing as how I bought a new car-silver). I think the JW products are supposed to be great and easier to use than Klasse AIO/SG ? How does JW compare to Clearkotte?

JW products are definetly among the easiest to use of all products. I think that their products are a lot easier than a typical Zaino app (although I can't say from experience) and may rival it's looks and durability.

BUT, to not add confusion, go with what has already been reccomended.

JW doesn't compare to CK at all, they are acrylic sealant, and CK is glazes/waxes. Both the best of their niche imo though.

Again, sorry to ask a dumb question, but does it simply come down to personal preference when deciding between an acrylic sealant and a glase/wax? Or does one protect better than the other? I am sure a lot of this is personal preference, but that is what I am looking for. Any comments would be appreciated!

To put simply, I'll list each products respective benefits over the other:

Sealant: Known for longest protection, being the most "optically clear" which presents the problem that if your finish isn't 99% perfect, it will emphasize the defects in the paint, not hide them. Slickness of some sealants are better than a wax.

Wax/Glaze: Better depth tenfold, you'll see a more 3 dimentional surface on dark colors. More warmth as some like to say. The CK liquid wax I use is a piece of cake to apply and remove. Supposedly better protection from bird bombs, enviornmental crap, etc. When a glaze is used prior to the wax, the hiding ability it increased as well, we all love 100% defect free paint, but it's just not a reasonable expection on a daily driver, get the paint 90% good, glaze/wax it, and use proper washing. It will take the headache out of owning a sealed car, and pulling your hair out when you realize it made your scratches/marring look WORSE.

I have the same color Lexus as you (except for the 250 and the AWD part)...

Here's the info on my detailing: http://autopia.org/forum/click-brag/86404-full-detail-2006-lexus-is250-awd.html

I would seriously consider Optimum polish. Works wonders on the Lexus paint (assuming you do not have SS paint, which I think all new IS's do not).

Depending on the actual severity of the fishing pole scratch, it might need a light wetsand. I know you said you rubbed your finger across it, but did you try fingernail to see if your nail will get stuck in the scratch?

Claying is a MUST. I so rarely ever do not clay a car before I perform a full detail and polish, and I want a clean, smooth service in which to apply polish/sealant/wax.

Pics of the scratch as well?

I have an IS350 in the SGM (dark gray) color, and have tried several combinations on it. They have included:

- Various Meg's products

- Klasse AIO topped with Souveran paste wax (not as nice as I expected)

- Zaino Z5 x 2 + Z2 x1 + Z8 x every wash

The Zaino is incredible on this color. Souveran might be better on black, though.

I have found Lexus paint to be pretty easy to polish - much more so than the Dodge I had previously. I used a white pad with PB SSR1 and easily removed very light swirling from the hood when the car was new. I was surprised to remove ANYTHING with a white pad and very light polish, but I'm glad I tried it before moving to something more aggressive.

Good luck with the IS350 - they're fantastic cars! By the way, the Meg's quick interior detailer is GREAT on these cars...I don't use anything else unless they're a scuff or something.
