Brand new black caddy

Just picked up a brand new black CTS.

Usually hand polished my other cars over the years and hand polish my black jeep. Just use meguiars polish and mothers carnaba wax. I have a Porter Cable orbital that i used on my boat.

Looking for suggestions on what to use on the new car, recommendations on good products, whether or not to use a sealant(never have), and if you'd use the orbital to apply remove product.

i was considering blackfire

thanks

Blackfire is great stuff. I love it. Consider getting Chemical Guys EZ Creme for underneath. Definitely go with the two bucket method of washing.

Brave man to get a black car. ;)

You should set aside at least 2 hours a week, then a 2-3 hour session each month to maintain the finish. The best way to not have to polish often is to wash it frequently and properly.

Hard to make any solid recommendations what type of prep the car needs prior to waxing since it isn't right in front of me, but if the finish isn't absolutely glass smooth after you wash it, you will need to clay it before you do anything else.

I haven't used Blackfire but any good quality wax or sealant should look really good. Don't get into the layering/topping stuff, just find a wax or sealant you like the looks of and use as often as necessary. No need to make it complicated.

I just purchased some new clay and will see what the paint looks like on this weekend's first wash. Don't know why but always nervous to clay a new black car...afraid to scratch it.

Still not sure whether to go wax or sealant or both.

Welcome to Autopia!

With the clay, I hope you got a good, gentle clay that won't mar the paint in-and-of itself. Besides that, remember that if it picks up anything abrasive it'll turn into sandpaper, so knead knead knead very frequently. Keep an eye on things (have good lighting!) and stop if you see you're causing problems.

I'm with Scottwax, don't bother with the "both" route. And don't read too much into the supposed differences between waxes and sealants (many/?most? waxes are natural/synthetic hybrids these days anyhow). IME Blackfire looks mighty "wax like" anyhow, so I doubt you'd be dissatisfied with how it looks.

BFWD looks very very wax like. I have had Autoglym HD on my car and BFWD on my wife's. Both cars are a metallic grey. Her car looked a lot better.

thanks for the input. hope to get to wash her today and really check the paint out to see what condition its in. The delivery of the car's interior was the worst i've seen...being a former detailer in college...so i dread the paint.

will be using the Blackfire products today and clay first if i need to
