Guys help....

Today I bought the PC package from autopia care:

http://autopia-carcare.com/son-daspol-kit.html

I think it comes with everything that I need.

I also bought Menzerna Intensive Polish and Menzerna Final Polish.

What else do I need to do my full detail.

I dont want do do clay bar, because I already did it a couple weeks ago.

Right now Im looking for something that takes away all my swirl marks, and I was hoping that the Menzerna with the PC would take that away.

Also today, I read on this forum, that many dont recomend Menzerna unless you are using a orbital... Is this correct? Did I buy the wrong product?... If I did, what product would you recommend.

Now to finsh teh whole process, do I need to wax the car? if so, which wax is the best.

TIA

you might want to read this post on menzerna and the PC:

if you're still unsure, poorboy's SSR polishes are good, 2.5 followed by 1 is a good place to start. 1z also has some good polishes, although i have no experience with them and cannot make any recommendations. but i've read that they contain wax, so that might be good if you can't do it all in one day.

and yes, you'll need to wax or seal the paint. what's the best? that's a personal taste, and it all depends on what you're looking for: wet look, shiney look, longevity, slickness, easy to apply, etc etc.

The Menzerna polishes work better with a rotary, not an orbital. If I were in your shoes, I would go with the 1Z polishes over the IP/FP. I've been using 1Z products for a while now and love them. They are very user friendly and work great with the PC.

They offer three levels of polish UPP, PP, and MP. I recommend using PP and MP in your case. UPP is usually reserved for very bad oxidation and extreme paint defects but can leave a pretty good bit of hazing behind that you will have to remove with PP, so if you don't need something this aggressive, don't use it. PP works on pretty much everything. If you want it to be aggressive, use it with a cutting pad, if you want it a little milder go with the polishing pad. I love it.

As far as a topper (wax/sealant) you can go with anything you want, but if you want to stick with 1Z products, the GW is great. It is very thin, almost like water and application is very easy and it contains carnauba so you can even top that with a paste wax if you want for added gloss.

Buy one of everything fro Autopia Store, Autogeek, CMA, TOL, ... Except foam pads, you will need at least 4 of each.:D

Cali.. always good to see people from e46fanatics (screen name over there is KUT_AUDI) over here learning how to make their cars beautiful...not that your car needs much help.

I made a similar mistake when I purchased my PC and polishes that you did. I got Menzerna IP and FP becuase they came highly recommend from the Audi boards and I found mixed results. On my Audi's hard clear I got miserable results. On my 325ci I got decent results with the IP/FP. I've since shelved the Menzerna polishes for the day that I pick up a rotary and actually learn how to use it. I moved onto Poorboys products and my current goto combo is poorboys SSR2.5 followed by SSR1. You could substitute the SSR1 for the Menzerna FP that you already have as I find that FP works just fine by PC, the only reason I bought the SSR1 was because I was already placing an order so I just went ahead and did it anyhow.

Poorboys polishes are great and user friendly as well BUT the 1Z products are VERY highly recommended here and will probably be my next polish to purchase when I run out of poorboys.

Sup Audi!

Nice seeing you here... I had an idea that you hang around here too.

I've been learning so much here... but still hard.

So, you not using your pc anymore?

What is the difference between a rotory and an orbital?

I was thinking of getting DACP and try that instead.

Its funny that in fanatics everyone just uses zainno thinking its a wax or polish. (i actually thought the same thing).

on the Zaino..me too...still love the product but I had no clue about a year ago when I joined this community about what really constitutes proper detailing.

I am learning to use a Rotary on scrap hoods, ect that I purchased from a local wrecking yard (my fiance LOVES scrap parts in the back yard...) but it's something that I'm just not prepared to practice on a real car yet. The problem with the Rotary is it's soo easy to make a mistake and burn the paint on a bumper, or the corner of a panel or just simply leave holograms in the paint that It's not something I'm ready to do just yet but I'll keep practicing until I feel confident there.

I still use the PC for 99% of my work (granted I'm a software devloper and just detail on the weekends). With the PC I find that I can fix most any paint to an acceptable level to where only an Autopian could nit-pick any remaining defects.

DACP is a great product as well. it's something that will work a little longer than some other products here and most of the members of this board still have it in their product lineup somewhere. It's a bit more agressive than the Menzerna IP as well. As a matter of fact if you don't get the results that you're looking for out of the Menzerna then I'd try DACP as it's available locally at paint supply stores and even NAPA carries the stuff. Could save you from another internet order.

On the difference between the Orbital and the rotary. The orbital does just that...doesn't spin on an axis rather it orbits in a random pattern. Yes the head will "spin" as a results of the motions but the slower speed and the random orbit patern as opposed to the head spinning on a fixed axis like a rotary will keep heat down. The orbital works like a supercharged human arm to work in products. Rotary's spin on a fixed axis and work more off of heat than off of the physical motion itself. That's why IP works better with a rotary as it's a little less agressive but when coupled with heat it's a great product.

Sorry for being long winded...I'm still a relative newbie to this place even though I learked for some time before I felt that I had the knowledge to post here. Keep reading and I'm sure you'll find a whole wealth of knowledge that will help you have the best looking e46 finish at all of the local meets.

Thanks man...

actually im trying to work on my M5.

the paint its ok, but not to my standards....

The E46 its perfect... but I guess could do better too.

I'll try the Menzerna and see what happens. I should be getting my PC today... so we'll see.

If I dont like the finish with the Menzerna, Can I use the DACP the following week? or is that too much polish fro the paint?

TIA

Don't discount the Menzerna FP, even it you do the IP. At 6 on the PC with a finishing pad renders the paint highly polished (actually burnished). Work it until it is dust. It makes a wonderful base on which to apply your chosen finish. It is ALWAYS my last step polish.

Waht do you mean "last step polish'?

Can you give me an example?

Tahnks

Your first polish will be the abrasive one (IP or DACP whichever you choose)...your final polish is not very abrasive at all...and is just used to bring out as much gloss from the paint as possible. Sometimes the more abrasive polishes leave behind a little marring or hazing of the finish..the final polish will correct these and bring out the highest gloss possible.

I agree FP is a great final polish and while I don't use my IP as much as I used to the FP is still used all the time.

You can do DACP the day after IP and it really won't be too much. It think that there have been several studies done here on thinning the clear through polishing and you're taking off such a small amount that you could literally polish the car once a week and not have to worry about paint issues....that said twice a year for the entire car should keep it sparkling like nobody's business depending on how often it's used.

I've seen the pictures of the M5 over on fanatics...but be sure to post some over here when you're through.
