Body Shop Bubbles?

Ok guys (and gals), i just got my truck out of the body shop about a week ago. I had the door painted from where someone broke into my truck. Anyway the paint job was perfect, no contamination, it matched perfectly etc. So i was very happy. Till today. I go out to my truck and what do i see but bubbles that have formed seemingly overnight on the door. It about twenty or so little bubbles in about a 1 inch by 1 inch spot. I assume i would have noticed these earlier had they been there. I am not happy i don't want my truck to have to go back to the bodyshop. What is causing this? My door is regular metal its not fiberglass or anything. Is this going to continue till my entire door is covered in bubbles? Thanks in advance guys.

Probably the surface was not cleaned completely before paint...or a previous coat of paint, filler or primer was not completely cured before paint.

Sorry to say...it won;t get better, and will probably get worse. I would get it back to the shop ASAP.

The term for this (used to be and maybe still is) "solvent seal". It's basically whatever is underneath trying to dry and escaping through the paint leaving the marks.

I am not a bodyman, but my understanding is that it would have to be repainted as it would have to be stripped down to the level where the porblem is.

I know that some of the composite cars, like Vipers and Vettes occaisionally have a problem similar to this. They call it "outgassing", where the composite panels are not yet fully cured and the paint is applied. Then, as the panels cure, it exits through the paint.

I would think it you are on this website, you wold have noticed them before. If they were there all along, it could be some sort of dust or dirt lurking under the paint. While ugly, that might never be a problem.

Yes, I would take it back to the shop and get them to correct the problem, whatever that may entail depending on what the problem is. If they repainted that area I don't think they'd just blithely repaint over an area that had a problem with it (a rust spot for example) without trying to fix it first.
