I would like some info on detailing the gelcoat on a fiberglass boat. I'd like to know what pads and cleaner/polish/wax to use with some sort of power polisher like the Porter Cable. It would be so much easier than by hand, but I really don't know where to start. The boat is about 4 years old and it is a bit faded depite being waxed yearly.

Thanks in Advance!

ya know, when I used to be a Wizards distributor, I would sell more Shine Master to boat owners then anything. It has good UV protection in it and it does restore faded paint 'pretty' well (there is better, IMHO).

I personally don't have any experience with it...but I figured I would at least lend you that.

Of course you could try Collinite. Very well known in the boating industry.

Collinite

Look to the #920 Fiberglass boat cleaner for a good cleaning of the surface.

This boat club has an article about it:

Great Cove Boat Club

They also have a chart from a Powerboat reports mag article rating 25 different boat waxes.

Boat Wax rating

They rate Collinite #885 Fleetwax and Trewax 4 Seasons the best 2 of the 25.

go to your local Wal Mart's marine section. The have 3m stuff specifically made for boats. They also have Meguiar's stuff madee for boats.
