BMW x4 (335, 335, 328, 328)...and my new car.

To the OP, what did you use on the interior bits? like the dashboard, steering column, instrument panel, cupholders, etc.

Did you use a different product for the wood paneling?

So the pics look so cool because of the lens?

Different in what way? A little distorted? If so, yes, it's a wide angle lens.

Dash, plastic, rubber, aluminum, all got 303 aerospace protectant. Leather got Z9/Z10. I pretty much put 303 everywhere that isn't leather or glass, it works on plastic, metal, rubber, vinyl, etc; just buff off thoroughly. Cheers.

Well the pictures.. they look very very cool... distorted sure.. but also very... professional.

Like the picture in the dark with just the lights on... how do you get that???

Well the first car in the second post is mine and I must say Kevin did an amazing job. I'll be sure to be careful with my soft paint. I'll probably be seeing you again in the spring. As for my tint job Kev. The second one seems to be a lot better but still not perfect. The dot matrix issue still seems to be just that...an issue. The tinter did the best he could and told me to bring it back in the spring when it's a little warmer and he'll see what he can do. If I'm still not happy he'll put a piece of black vinyl across the top of the back window. The sides are pretty good. I'm going to Rome tomorrow so I'll come by and show you when I get back. Congrats on the new car. Looks AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. :)

The pic with the lights in the dark? A steady hand, I guess. My wife is a pro photographer so she gives me tips! :) Here are some more:

These pictures in the dark, what lighting are you using, if any?

And do you have the camera on special aperture settings? or merely on "Auto" mode.

The lighting used is all the garage lighting, so random florescent lighting (you can see its reflection in the car). We also have a mounted flash that I sometimes use too (the one that goes on top of the camera). I leave the camera on auto - I don't really know how to use any of the settings. :)

congrats for the new car and the job u did on the other to ;) i really like the new 3 series coupe, but i hate the sedan...

Wanna give me some photo lessons?? I love seeing your pics.

Alrighty Picus. Excellent jobs on the vehicles, but I think it is time for you to share the secrets that your wife has given you to take the quality pictures that you take. I've seen your Aston Martin pics too, and you NEED to share some tips as I would love to create the sense of presence you give to your own pictures.

Congrats on your 335i too. With $3000 you can roast an M3 in a straight line.

Thanks. I think even stock 335i vs M3 is a drivers race, of course the cars are very different. I will probably go with a 94 octane map xede in the spring (it's getting most guys 75hp/90tq or so).

Alright so pictures. Believe it or not I never, ever, take the camera off auto. In general I notice most guys are impressed by the indoor shots, the ones with "depth", those are almost uniformly taken with the off camera flash on (it's an add on flash, sits on top of the body), if you bounce it off the ceiling it gives that appearance of depth, lights up the foreground but not the background, like this:

Honestly though, aside from that I don't have any "tricks". I do benefit from having a wide angle lens. I only ever use that flash if I am taking "arty" shots. TBH I don't post many of those arty shots here on Autopia because even though they are neat, they are pretty poor "detailing" shots. So I try to just take as many with regular lighting (either sun, or 500W halogens) as I can.

Picus, thanks for the reply. Darn I hate factory turbo cars! With a little mod here and there, performance can improve dramatically!
