BMW Drivers are Stuck Up????

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
Yesterday while enjoying a few drinks at a local dive bar that I go to every Friday for happy hour...I was in a conversation with three people that where new to the bar....They where talking about cars which sparked my interest..one gal pipes pipes up and says that BMW drivers are stuck up:huh::huh::huh:

I didn't say anything about the make of car that I have driven since 1979...She went on how they always get the best parking spaces, cut you off in traffic, act like they are the better cars on the road....so I asked...do you think that MB, Lexus or any other higher end car drivers are like this...a firm no!

I decided to stop talking to them about this point, excused myself and walked to another place in the room...about half hour later one of the other gals in the three...came over and apologized to me for her friends out burst...turns out her X husband got the BMW in the divorce and her liquid courage helped to bring that out in her:rofl

I told the gal no big deal to me...and told her what I drive...she started laughing and said thanks for not making an issues over it.:D

beemer drivers are a cut above the rest of us .. i admit it .. ha ha....if you drive a beemer you ARE SOMEBODY ...gotta go warm up the saturn and go to the gym :crazy2:

A friend of a friend once told me a joke. "What's the difference between a porcupine and a BMW? The pricks are on the outside of the the porcupine!" I just smiled and set my key fob on the table. He turned pale then red with embarrassment. I played it for a minute or so, but then laughed about it with him. Hey, I've been called worse! :D

I play cards with a group of guys once a month. One of them owns 2 beemers. The conversation turned to cars and he was going on about how nice his cars were. I know beemers are well engineered machines but I have never been a fan of them. I said that aloud and he replied, "It's because you can't afford one." I remarked back, "Well, I can't afford a Ferrari but love those cars." My point is that what you drive gives people a false impression of who you really are. I have a Chevy pickup but I sell real estate. Not the norm in my industry. Never be offended by what people say, most of the time it is out of jealousy or hate, as in Dave's story.

:hmmm:You know there may be something to this my loving wife (yes she is loving) drives a BMW and i drive a Ford. She makes me park out side so she can park her precious BMW in the garage:bonk: But that's ok hers is a rag top.

I should have said that shes not stuck up / shes is just the boss

In 1979...I wanted to buy a new car...I was fed up with American cars...windows leaked air, power was good but poor handling..over all the cars where not built to the quality that I wanted...A lot of my Mothers friends had MB, jags, BMW and went I did details on them and had the chance to drive them I was in love with German and European engineered cars...I started to read about German cars...BMW caught my eye..because of the styling and that they built cars that where performance minded.

That's when I got my 79...320i...13.5K brand new off the lot... I was in love with the car...I drove it 380K in 13 years...I replaced the motor with a factory new one at 200K..I rebuilt the suspension, and made sure the car was dependable..That cost me 4K total....The whole time that I had the car..it never left me standing not once!!!

Since then I've had a 85 535i, 2000...328i and current 99...540i.

I'm selling the 540 after the first and buying a M3 and that one will stay in the family for a while!

I guess at the end of the day...I didn't start driving BMW because I wanted to act like I was rich...I just wanted to drive a car that was well built, handled and preformed well, reliable...and something that I would always enjoy driving.

I read once that if you can't walk away from your car and look back to admire it...then your not in love with the car...I sure can't!

What you drive is really of no concern to me, but....
In my area and my circle of friends I think the general opinion is just what your title says. :)
This is not a case of envy, either. Mercedes, Lexus, Cadillac, Lincoln, Jaguar are some of the makes owned.
I'm kind of low on the totem pole with my Pontiacs. :)

Several of my friends are involved in the used car business and the general consensus seems to be that most European vehicles are high maintenance. Read, Expensive to own.

I hope it's the new E92 :dnaughty If you can afford $80K :passout:

I was next to one in traffic about 3 weeks ago coming over the Cotati Grade and told the guy that he could not have picked a better car (Yes, I'm in love with the E92 :crazy2:), he just smiled and politely said thank you, and even complimented my Jeep :D
Doesn't seem like he was stuck up to me :)

I've had people ask me why I'd want to own a Jeep, because they're "cold, noisy, rough, unreliable..." Above all, I'd say it's for all of the above, and that other Jeep owners happen to be some of the best all-around folks I know. They always wave, and if they're like me, stop and ask a fellow Jeeper if they need help when seen stranded on the side of the road.

I would love to have a newer pick-up, but there's no way in hell I'd ditch the Jeep for one! :gotcha:

I didn't think they'd have time to get "stuck up" what with being at the mechanic's shop all the time. :D

Yuk yuk yuk. Hardy har har. I'll be here all next week.

And Dave, I'm just kidding. Don't shoot me. :)

Not to worry. Since you are packing, you should be able to exercise your right to defend yourself against a vicious, stuck up BMW driver. Hey, he even admitted his guilt on a public forum. Chances are, the worst you would get would be 25 to life. :)

Of course the fact that he is packing probably means he may exercise his right to defend himself against someone that questions his choice in vehicles. In that case, I guess the worst you would get would be dead. :)

Sounds like either a standoff or a shootout at the BMW corral.

I think people who buy BMW's usually have a similar need like people who buy Corvettes but for different reasons. They intentionally do not want to own a car most others have even with the expanded choices today. There may be other reasons.

Around here BMW's are more common than Chevy's!

Dave, you are a true enthusiast like myself. You appreciate the fine attention to details, quality engineering and the true driving sensation that only a high end European car can give you. Those ranters are just jealous or don't understand that you drive a car more because you appreciate it then the image it gives.

Just saw my first ALPINA B7. Whoa! Those drivers have a right to be stuck up.

Yes they do Jay! Awesome car.

Around here, there are so many cars period that there is no brand that will "stand out", unless it is an exotic. Even then, it better be an Enzo, Veyron, etc. Gallardos, Diablos, F360s, F430s, etc. are seen every day. Even more so now that Ferrari of Tampa Bay just opened up about 2 miles from the house.

Its what hooked me back in the 70's when I brought my first one....:D

Can I fit in here somewhere?
