Bleeding air out of a floor jack

Just got a Sears 3 ton jack stand(damn thing is heavy!) on sale for $88 bucks with 2 jackstands. I think I migh have introduced some air into it as I was testing it out. I think I had turned the valve under the lever arm(is that what its called?) counterclockwise and at the same time pushed the lever arm down. How do you bleed air out of a floor jack and how can I make sure I don't introduce air in it next time? Thanks for any help!

That's the way I did it. The second question has more to do with the quality of the jack and the seals. It should not do it in the first place because air leaks are DANGEROUS and can lead to failure.

Always use jack stands!!!!!!!!
