Blackfire

I use AIO as a base layer for Platinum. I haven't tried it for Blackfire yet. CMA says that you need to use the Blackfire paint cleaner as the base or else it won't work properly. I would imagine that it is true for the new formula too. That would be a good question for Terry though. Did the samples include the paint cleaner as well as the sealant?

Hmmm.... I've read that on their website also, but here's a thread where Terry from CMA (reportedly) states that you can go directly from any polish (skip the wash) and apply either Blackfire product without any bonding issues...... Interesting....

Where on their website does it say you have to use GEP first? I've looked at it a few times trying to see what it says about using just the protectant. While it doesn't say you can just use the protectant, it also doesn't say you have to use the GEP first. To me it seemed like it didn't really address the issue. Just wondering if you saw something I didn't.

You're absolutely right. I just read through the entire Blackfire description pages and there is no reference to whether or not it can be used right after a polish without using GEP.

When I got the original Blackfire I emailed CMA asking if it was ok to use other products with or without GEP before the protectant. They said it was fine and hadn’t noted any bonding issues using 3rd party prep products and you could apply All Finish Paint Protection anytime the paint was in good shape.

They may have taken it off after they realized that it didn't need to be done that way. I'm sure it boosted sales for just the polish without having to purchase the GEP first. Who knows..? If it works well on top of AIO then all the better. I'm used to using the GEP first when I use BF so it will be hard to change. It will save me money in the long run though. A bottle of AIO lasts longer than a bottle of GEP anyway.

I also received my Blackfire Product Evaluation package today. If the weather holds up I'll give it a try this weekend.

Thanks guys for the input. Terry just confirmed what several of you have suggested in his blackfire response thread. :xyxthumbs

It appears that it is fine to use other products as well as GEP as the base/polish for Blackfire PP.

I just got the sample kit today and can't wait to try it out. :bounce

Terry and CMA are the greatest. What an Organization!!!:D

Isn't the original formula blue also? Was CMA already selling their revised formula back in July?

In any event... glad to hear you are getting such great results!! You're starting to whet my appetite and I can't wait to try out BF again!

According to my bottles it is. :xyxthumbs I don't think that that stuff is the new and improved stuff. The Blackfire page on CMA still reads the same as it did when they put it up. Nothing is mentioned about a new forumula or the fact that its been improved and is now slicker. Hmmmmmm....

Please post pics, (of dark color car if you can), so we can see what the finish looks like. I would be curious to see how the new version works.

BTW: Sorry for the blurry look in some pictures. Any ideas on what would cause that? It has auto focus, and even when Manually focus, some pics just turn out bad. :nixweiss

It is a 3.2 mp Kodak DX3700 which normally takes wonderfull pics.

If your batteries are running a little low then your pics will get out of focus pretty quick. If your camera lets you adjust your shutter speed then that could be an issue too. Its probably just the batteries though.

Man, I got my new improved BF today and wouldn't ya know it, its been snowing and raining all day and FREEZING! Now I don't know when I am going to get to use it. NUTS!

I tried the new Blackfire on our burgundy 2001 Trooper 4x4 and it worked great. Since the Trooper finish was neglected I "dawned" and clayed first, then did 3M SMR and Meguiar's Cleaner, followed by Blackfire. At first I was having problems with drying and buffing it until I gradually reduced the amount I was using. The finish came out very slick but it doesn't seem to repel dust. The nice thing is that Blackfire doesn't look like other polymers I've tried and it actually has depth along with shine and reflection. I can't say that Blackfire looks better than the GEPC/S100 Maxima next to it, but it probably will outlast it by several fold. :)

Is CMA selling the new formula now? I have BF from when it first came out wasn't to happy with durability don't want to buy same stuff again.:nixweiss

Correct me if I am wrong, but Terry at CMA stated that they threw out all the old formula. Aurora 4.0 and I were trying to decide if it was worth trying to locate that dumpster;) . Call CMA and inquire. The new formula is really good.:xyxthumbs :wavey

I just got a bottle of the new formula from CMA and will try it on my daughters "new" 97 Honda Civic, black. Has 5 years of the previous owners swirls on it
