Black Trim...

ok guys, I checked the archieves first before posting this question again. But, I have a different slant on it. The black molding on my BMW in certain places has wax residue on it. I know that smearing peanut butter on it helps that. But, does it perminatly get rid of it or just for alittle while till the oil evaperates? Also, do you just rub it on ans then wipe it off? SInce it's the peanut oil in the peanut better that does it, couldn't i just go out an buy peanut oil, put it on a rag and wipe it on? Thanks everyone!:xyxthumbs
 
The oils supposedly soften the wax ...kinda dissolve it a bit...the wiping action afterwards should remove it...this may take more than one application.



If going the oil route try also agitating with a soft toothbrush.



What you are trying to do is wet the wax again so it can be removed. Waxes have the oils in them to keep them soft and spreadable so the oils put back on top should hopefully soften it back up so you can remove it.



For smaller wax deposits on trim try a little QD with a soft toothbrush...brush like you are getting paid by the hour..ie take your time. Enjoy a beer in one hand and the tooth brush in the other.



A good old tip is to apply protectant on the trim first as this makes clean up after waxing a bit easier...Yeah it still sticks in spots but clean up with a toothbrush is easier after.

I use peanut butter with a microfiber towel. Take a few seconds and mask around the edges of the trim to save cleanup time and keep the towel away from the paint. Use one MF towel to apply the PB and a clean one to take it off and buff the trim. I did this to the black trim on my Jeep over a month ago and it still looks brand new. I've tried about every commercial product make to do this job but nothing has worked like Peanut Butter. To me, the thick makeup of the PB is an advantage over oils because there's no dripping all over the place.
 
The best product I have ever tried for plastic bumpers is Autoglym Bumper cleaner. It is a green jell that restors plastic to its original look (not just a silicon spray that makes things greasy). The other thing it does is disolve off white polish residue on plastics (I guess it is very good at this because Autoglym polish leaves lots of white resedue). This is one product I would recomend and v good.
 
Someone let the secret out a couple of months ago that it is the vegetable oil in the peanut butter that removes the wax. Not the peanut oil.
