Black Trim

Noting that there are all sorts of "black plastic trim", back when I had the '00 Blazer I polished its black plastic trim with 1Z Paint Polish (yeah...really) and topped with Collinite 476S. Worked great.



The Denali doesn't have much of the same trim, but on *its* black plastic (e.g., under the windshield) I cleaned it with KAIO and topped with a spray sealant. For the textured plastic trim on the sideview mirrors I used KAIO topped with the 845.



On most vehicles' black plastic I try the Klasse twins but for some reason I like the AIO/845 combo on GMs.



I only use a dressing-based approach if an LSP-based one doesn't work...I'd rather not redo it every month or two if I can help it and the LSPs wash clean for a good long time.
 
I second mother back to black.. Just used it on a customers Jeep Grand Cherokee and it turned out well black... Hahahh

Sometimes *NO* LSP will work for this, but most of the time you can use Collinite 845 with zero problems. Ditto for Souveran, but that doesn't last long (I've even used Souveran on black rubber trim on my Jag...the 24-year-old rubber is just like new). The Klasse twins usually work great as long as the trim is in good condition, but I'd use W-O-W-O with the KSG to get the most uniform finish (and I don't usually do W-O-W-O either).



I've even done OK with 476S in a few cases, but, uhm "don't try that at home, kids" ;)
 
I used Black Again on my truck door handles and tailgate handles and the first time it rained the stuff washed off and ran down the door and tailgate. Still haven't found anything that works well to get the faded chaulky look off the handles. Would not use Black Again--again. I have almost a full container left--if you want it I'll sell it for 1/2 price and you pay the postage and you can have it.

For textured trim I go with Ulitima Tire & Trim Guard Plus. Two coats will last months with no streaking in rain.



smooth trim gets Sonus Total Eclipse.
 
Seriously the best product I have used to date is "bumper and trim black 3400"

Made by urethane supply company. The bottle is black with a yellow label and it has an applicator tip. I bought some from autogeek. It is an actual dye that restores the trim to like new. It is not a dressing that washes off! I used it on severly aged and sun bleached trim as well as over wax stained trim and it did an awesome job. I used a sponge style paint brush from home depot to apply it instead of the applicator tip it comes with. Also a little goes an extremely long way. I prob used 1/2 oz for an entire car (window trim, front and rear bumper trim and the trim piece attached to the wiper blades running the entire width of the windshield)
 
Gloss-it TRV FTW!!! I have never used anything better....



All the top detailers that I see on the other detailing forums rave about it... (from Florida/Palm Beach, California) who do all the exotics...
