Great work Rick! The cars that take the longest are the most rewarding for sure!

Do you have any 3M Ultra Fina to try? I am thinking you would not have had any issues w/ the UF finishing down hologram free. At least that has been my experience with it so far. I also like the 3M blue foam pad that is made to work with the UF.

Bryan, it's funny you ask! I gave Rydawg a call when I was having a hard time with it and he recommended I try using Ultrafina. I called around everywhere and stopped by 4 auto body supply stores and nobody carried it. It sounds like it would have been the perfect product for my situation. It is definitely on my list of supplies to get along with the 3M Extra Cut Compound.

How do you think UF performs compares to 106ff? From what I've heard, it sounds like it has a little less cut, but finishes off better on soft paints. Have you used it on harder paints yet?

Rick, Now that you mention the story, I recall Ryan telling me that you almost drove an hour each way in a blinding snow storm to pick some up from him. :grinno:

Yes less cut, but finishes better on softer paints. Longer working time then 106ff IMO. I have not tried it on any hard clears yet. Ryan also said he prefers the flat back sided 3M blue foam pads to the other style that have the indension. I have the flat back sided pads. They work great....

Ultra Fina method from Ryan: Work in for a min. or so at 800-1000. Got to 1500 and apply some pressure to make your passes, back down to 800-1000 with machine weight to finish it off. When you are at 1500 it just seems that you can work the UF forever.

Yes the 3m ECC will get some cutting done for you when needed. You just about buff it dry and it wipes off easier then any polish I have ever used.

Thanks for the info Bryan. I have the day off from work, so I might take a ride to see if I can track down some of both. I really need to give the Z06 a good polishing soon.

No problem Rick! Do you have any of these stores around you?Company: Store Locator

They had it in stock at my local store, but not the pads. They are a new store.

Here is your local store:

Sherwin-Williams Branch - 9109 (MEDFORD, MA)

314 MYSTIC AVE

MEDFORD, MA 02155 US

(781) 395-4463

Interested in hearing how it works on your Z06.

Bryan, thanks again!

I'm going to give them a call right now and take a ride if they carry it. It's about a 20 min ride away.

I will be sure to let you know how it works on the Z.

Bryan, I just got back from Sherwin Williams. Got some Ultrafina, 3000 Extra Cut and an Ultrafina blue foam pad (05733).

I can't wait to experiment with it.

Thanks for the help!

Darn Rick sounds like you hit it nice. I went out and got a haircut. But the chick that cuts my hair is smokin' :woohoo:

I also ordered a PTG today.

Can not wait to see the Z06 Rick! You will love the ultrafina and the blue pad. It works superb on soft clears. Does a great job on hard clears too. It works forever and is a one of a kind product. The 3M Extra cut 3000 does a great job on harder clears too.

If you plan on doing it next weekend, I will come down and give you a hand.

Great job on the G35! The lack of orange peel is incredible (along with the reflection); it annoys the $hit out of me on my car.

Ah you guys really hate the 5AT; I guess it will be best when I install my Vortech not to take interior shots... That hood I think is also the only hood available to give clearance for the Stillen S/C.

Thanks!

I think the hood was fabricated by the owner. He took a Stillen hood and modified it to his liking. I'm pretty sure he is an authorized Stillen dealer as well. As for the 5AT, I think he's already on the third tranny already.
