Black Navigator.. combo?

hmm, what do you think is best option? I'm thinking of going to see a detail guy I know to get his take on it might be best bet if trying on my own isn't a good idea

Some of this might not sound feasible, but it's how I'd go about it.

First, I'd inspect the issue with good lighting and magnification. I'd try to figure out exactly what this "stain" really is.

If it's an above-surface deposit of some contamination, I'd try clay.

If not, or if the clay didn't work, then I'd try a predominantly chemical cleaner.

Then I'd consider a mild abrasive.

Then maybe a more aggressive abrasive.

FWIW, I have a spot on the bumper of my Yukon where I suspect somebody dripped some brake fluid or somesuch. It's not gonna come out so I just polished it a little and learned to live with it. Hope yours isn't something unfixable like that, but weird things can happen and sometimes there isn't anything you can do.

I'd be careful that your "detail guy" doesn't mess things up worse only to just say, "sorry, it won't come out after all" in the end. Have him explain what he's gonna do and see if it sounds sensible.

Ouch!! A black Navigator on one of your first tries. Talk about throwing yourself to the wolves. Good luck.

Thanks guys,

think I'll try out the 205/16 or 205/Collinite combo, and maybe also get the poorboy's to try out as well, does anyone know with regards to poorboys, is it wax ready after the SSR 2.5/1 combo?

Collinite 845, I hear that it mutes black color? or am I simply thinking of mute in the wrong context?

Poorboy's polishes were decent 7-8 years ago, stopped using them in favor of Optimum and Meguiars polishes.

Collinite 845 (along with S100) looks too bright on black, IMO. #16 has a somewhat softer look to it but is not as readily available. My favorite on sold black is Clearkote's Carnauba Moose and Meguiars NXT2.0. I'd give CMW the edge in durability though. Optimum's Opti-Seal looks really good on black too, just not quite as deep as a carnauba does.

This is a black Navigator I polished with Meguiars D-151 (which is a polish plus sealant, similar cut to #205) topped with Opti-Seal.

I've heard that Ford paints are soft and easy to work with compared to others?

Accumulator/Scott,

I'm going to go the Meg's route, as nobody seems to know anything about Poorboy's lol, or they just don't support it anymore,

I'm thinking with my first go around I'll try out the Collinite 845. Do I have to top it with anything? or is it just fine as is.

If I were to use the Clearkote products, is the Vanilla Moose what you are talking about Scott?

Lastly, I've read so many people going bananas over Pinnacle Souveran, is it worth all the hype? I've heard it gives a real wet look?

Thanks Guys! appreciate all the feedback

Carnauba Moose is what I am talking about, Vanilla Moose is a glaze/wax combo.

I wouldn't worry about topping, just put another coat of 845 on it next time you wash it then you should be good for 3-4 months before needing to freshen it up again.

Thanks Scott,

with the 105/205, I then just go right to the Collinite 845 is what you guys are telling me? or did I miss something and should there be something between the combo and 845?

2BTAMED- Yeah, just go from the final polish with M205 right to your waxing with 845. Don't worry abou the talk regarding "finer final polishing", M205 oughta leave things just fine.

Souveran is nice, but it needs redone *so* often that I'd never use it on a driver (any more, did do that when I didn't mind waxing all the time), let alone on something that big.

Thanks Accumulator, I might have to swap products with something similiar, as M105/205 seem to be out of stock by the Cdn suppliers

Hmm...better be a little careful about that. I'd rather special order/wait on the right stuff than try to do it with the wrong products. Well, not necessarily "wrong" but still not optimal...

Hmmmm..I spent a lot of time learning on several vehicles using Megs 83 & 80....Later, bought the 105 after reading numerous posts and that product is well worth waiting for or ordering from another source.....To be honest, went directly from 105 to lsp on each car. Make sure that you have enough pads! My next project will be the garage queen on which 205 will also be used. GL

He could always go with optimum if he wants.. The ford clear *should* be soft enough that OHC+OP combo would work pretty well with the right pads.

I do think that M105+M205 combo would be the most effective time wise and results wise with the DA though..

Looks like I'll be waiting it out for the 105/205 products, thanks guys

I'm guessing by the suggestions I should get myself a few orange pads to work? as well as some whites?

Yeah, and get more than you think you'll need; those products are pretty dependent on having nice clean (and properly primed) pads.

The combo I plan to hit my Stang with is 205 on 5.5 orange, 105 on 5.5 green followed by 85rd with a blue pad all will be done with the GG ROB Looking forward to it as I think this will look great

Yeah I was thinking about getting myself about 4 each or so?

I'm thinking use the yellow/orange with the 105, orange/white with 205, then black with the collinite? That sound about right Accumulator?

I dunno just how the intermediate steps will work out (which pad/product matches will be best), but yeah, you have the right idea.

I did my old expedition with #83 and a 6 inch orange pad, and #80 with a white pad, took forever, id stick with the m105 orange and clean up with m205 white, that will give you an awesome look. Also get some blue pads and you can use those to help speed up the application of collinite 845 (which is a liquid). as for the poorboys polishes, they arent anything special and people have dropped them for meguiars, optimum, uno, menzerna

Thanks for the feedback. That was pretty much the thoughts I was going for. I'm debating between the orange and yellow pad with the 105, as I believe the yellow is little stronger? or do I have them backwards?

Blue pads? that is a better choice then black?

I'm still little hazy on the order they go in, I believe it is: yellow, orange, white, green, blue/black?

Thanks Accumulator, took your advice, I'm waiting on my order at moment, supplier tells me at end of the wk 105/205 should be restocked and ready to go

Hope all goes well, so then I can use same procedure on my car, as I wont be touching it till I'm pleased what I see on my navi first
