Black Lexus; resurrected.

The paint was pretty soft. Not super soft; but on the soft side of average. I can see how improper washing would cause this. It is a shame though.

Did you find the Lexus Black to have very soft clear? Mine is a b_tch. If I take it down with a rotary, I see holograms in the sun the next day (but they don't show up with Dual Xenon light). If I use the DA, I get micromarring, and can only MAYBE get it out with FPII on a Lake Country grey pad, but not consistent results. Any pointers?

Beautiful Work. A perfect example why you never let the dealer wash your vehicle.

Pictures actually should be sent to Lexus Canada. I assume it was a Toronto Dealer?

There's no need for that attitude. Did you even bother to read the thread? The owner posted (his first post, he's a new member), and shared that the damage was done by a local detail shop and a few dealer washes. He's now picked up his own supplies, and is going to try to maintain the finish himself now that Picus has restored it (awesome job, BTW).

It was a Toronto area dealer. Since the dealer only washed it 4-5 times I think a lot has to do with the detailing place. They used the water blade but I also notice they used a towel afterwards and it didn't look like a microfiber towel. More like a terry towel.

When my car goes in for service I will let them know that they shall not wash my car and that if they do they will be paying for Kevin to revisit it.

It wasn't neglect. It was winter and I didn't know what to do. I thought I was doing right by getting it hand washed at the detailing chain. I knew that dealer washes may be a mistake but didn't realize the extent. I saw the issues a couple months into ownership, well not some of those bruttle CWB scratches, and knew that Kevin was going to be doing his thing come spring. After that I would need to take control of the situation myself. Then I found Autopia, read about ONR, etc, and found a post by Scottwax on how to wash/was a car in an hour or less.

The clear bra is a great addition. I have one on my unit and I love it. Next Lexus will definitely have one. I haven't had any issues with it and it is over 3 years old at this point.

Enjoy your Lexus.

Simply amazing job :)

Yeah Stu before I found this place I was the same way. Thought the more wax I used the better and it was cool to use an old washrag for my carwash and if I had a dirty sponge applicator for the wax it was ok because that was just the way it gets heh.

Can someone explain "tinted clear"? I've never heard of that.

If I indicated any attitude, I apologize.

It was soft yes, but not so soft that finishing down was hard. I was able to finish clean with 106ff/white @~1200 rpm, so fairly quick. I would not try to finish down with a DA on this paint, I can foresee heavy micromarring. Do you have 106ff? If not, I highly recommend trying it.

It was, however it is hard to pinpoint if it was the dealer, the detailing place, or both. I have a *feeling* it was a combo of both with most of the blame resting on the detailing place. Stu mentioned that he'd only been to the dealer a few times, whereas he'd been to the detailing place a number of times, and watched them use a CWB rather aggressively, as well as questionable drying towels. The CWB damage was some of the worst I'd seen.

Tinted clear is just what it sounds like, instead of being straight up clear paint it has some color in it, but it's still a two stage paint job (as opposed to single stage), so when you buff it you notice a light discoloration on your pads (in this case black), but not nearly as much as with single stage.

FWIW, Stu has a number of good products and info at his disposal now, I am confident he will keep the car looking good from here on out. :woot2:
