Black cars

I just washed my car after a nice rain shower 2 days ago that I washed the night before and i honestly have to say a black car is the worst car to try and fix and make perfect. I think i brought my swirls back somewhat. I see the sunlight beam down on my paint and what do you know there are swirls. Maybe i just did not completely get them out when i buffed it a few weeks ago. The car looks great when the sun comes down. This is getting so pathetic you clean a black car and its never perfect when its dried. A black car shows you what you have missed when cleaning. Everything i do to try and keep it spotless and there is always something wrong. Im letting my frustration out to you guys. :)
 
Get your washing techniques down as most of the imperfections are caused by washing and drying. Remember BLACK is not a color, its a part-time job.

Do yourself a favor, if you have shown signs of OCD in the past or take medication to reduce the effects of OCD, don't buy a black car. An OCD person buying a black car is like a recovering alcoholic working in a bar.

That **** is hilarious but it is SOO true. First off, I am a recovering alcoholic and I do have signs of minor OCD. I also don't work in a bar but I due have a black vehicle:laugh: But I try not to dwell on swirls becaue they will always be there.

lol good so someone else is in the same boat as me. I guess you cant have 100% swirl free on black car.
 
I do a final rinse with distilled water to avoid spots (very hard water here). I've also used Zaino products for years on my Grand National and haven't come across anything that works better for me. Two applications of their scratch and swirl remover work wonders. A good quick detailer (Zaino Z8 or Meguires spray) also helps keep it looking good.



That said, after all these years I'm now switching to machine polishing to cure the deep scratches!
 
ok this is pathetic so the sun is beaming and what do i notice. i have hazing from when i buffed the 2nd time. I thought i got it off and it cleaned up from white pad. I am honestly giving up and trying to give this car 100% clean and no imperfections. I am not buffing again for awhile lol.
 
Looks like it's time for some RMG topped with carnauba. That will help make black look near perfect even in full sun. Ask me how I know.

Black is indeed a part time job. I recently finished mine out (looooooong time via PC) and it's good enough now for DD. I was debating putting PS or 476 over the RMG I put on it but I opted for 476 because imo 476 will help me keep her in better shape daily.



I two bucket it with blot drying, and do a QD wipedown after drying in the car wash bay. When doing rinseless washes I usually double the recommended amounts.
 
Jax Wax has a Swirl Remover that works Great. Easy on Easy off. Swirls Gone. Google Jax wax! No Buffing either! It is especially for Black or dark colored cars!

I totally echo these feelings. Black car, New England, no garage. :faint:



My question is simple: (to anyone on the forum.....) why is black the best color?

Really open up on this and express your sentiments. Try to sell me back to the black.
 
Black is indeed the hardest color to keep clean and looking great...



However, when it is clean and looking great, there is NO other color that shows off as well as black...



It's a trade off...

but don't you think a glowing red or a happy blue or a blazing yellow evokes a strong emotional response? isn't it that black (when perfect) tells a story where you revel at the quality time and effort that was put into it? or is it just the mysteriousness of black in general?

So i guess i'm noticing a disparity when you ask the general population the simple old..."What is your favorite color?" but for some reason when you ask autopians the same quesiton, it's prob black. The context changes it.

So is it really the color? Or is it the effort?
 
Snowskate, I think you've already touched on many reasons why black is so popular. What is more mind boggling to me is that the majority of the public does not care for their paint, yet these same people insist on owning black cars. They love to go to the car wash once a week and let those vertical street sweepers nearly sand the finish right off their car. But don't worry, they spent the extra buck for the hot wax. :wall



The sad truth is this: most people really don't know what they're doing with many things in life and here's a really good example. The neighbor on my left is an 87 yr old frail man who recently got a dog. Guess which breed? An 18 month old huge German Shepherd with an anger problem. A real wise choice for an elderly man with bad knees and hips. The neighbor on my right is a single woman who is never home. She also wanted a dog so she got a high energy breed that requires lots of exercise that it never receives. Then she complains about how hyper the dog is. She'll probably give it away or even worse think about putting it down because it's "Too much for her". So this dog will die because this lady doesn't know how to choose a breed properly. Maybe she'll exercise the dog by throwing a tennis ball. Do you know how bad tennis balls are for dogs? Many dogs die because the ball gets slimy and the dog chokes on it. Other times the dog bites through the ball and chokes on the fragments. Did you know that the tennis balls nylon fuzz abrades the dogs tooth enamel? Moreover, do you know how deadly that automotive antifreeze in the driveway is to your pet? Sorry to go off on a rant but the fact remains. We are primarily an emotion driven culture that doesn't give much thought to exactly what the heck we're doing most of the time and many other things suffer due to our ignorance. Wow, what the heck does this have to do with black cars? :D

If you are doing a "less than thorough" cleanup and the car isn't more than dusty, try Poorboy's Spray + Wipe or some other "waterless wash" or a "Rinseless" wash like QEW, ONR, etc. and use plush towels.

Don't use pressure in either case. Even with these, you will eventually get some marring, so you will need to re-polish at some time.

Something else to consider is using glazes and QD's with fillers. Adam's QD is good for this, and OTC Eagle One Nano spray wax fills fine marks.

For waxing, consider ClearKote's Vanilla Moose or Meg's NXT. Both fill fine marring too.
