Black C5 Corvette Detail

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate all of the positive comments.

Dave1- To clean up the engine compartment I wet the engine compartment down with the hose, saturated with Trans-Mate Kleens GP Cleaner, let dwell for about a minute, agitated with a a variety of brushes and rinsed. After it was rinsed, I wiped it all down with a damp microfiber. No shine was added.

gmblack3a- I normally use the blue wool pad after heavy compounding with the yellow wool and has been working out well. If you use a mild polish, you can use it for finessing, but also use for cutting with a more agressive product. This was the first time I used the blue wool with SIP for my maint step (normal defect removal, not including deep scratches) and was happy with the results. I was pressed on time, so I really didn't want to swirl it up by using a yellow pad on the entire car and have to follow behind with the blue pad and finish up with foam. The blue pad with SIP left hardly any marring, but definitely needed the 106ff with foam as a last step.

Rydawg- So when are you and I getting together to clean our own cars? My Z06 is in dire need of a good polishing and well, I saw the interior of your truck the other day :) . We'll have to plan it some day soon. Ill talk to you over the weekend.

I have to say that SIP and 106ff are hard to beat on the Corvette clears. Definitely the best combo I have found so far. Even the guys at the dealership were like " what the hell did you use on that thing, it looks sick!". I told them that I just slapped a coat of wax on it ...:grinno:

what a recovery! you did an amazing job! I must agree with you with the combo of sip and 106ff. Patrick recommened it to me and they are truly amazing products. Your detail turned out awesome! nice work

Excellent work Rick. I used to own a black C5 just like that but without the vert top.

I love that car, miss it badly.

Nice to see you take care of that one the way you did.

Vettes have such hard clears, I'm glad you were able to restore it.

That looks awesome.

What was your method and products for the top?

My dad has a triple black 2000, and I never know what to do with the top. ( A few Pictures )

On this particular car I did not do anything special to the top. I was a bit in a rush and was not being paid to go above and beyond like I would have on a retail job. The top was washed with soap and water, dried with a waffle weave microfiber drying towel and vacuumed after all polishing was done to remove the lint from the wool pad. Normally I would add some protectant to the top. I forget the name of the product I use, but it is similar to Raggtop protectant.
