Black C5 Corvette Detail (Before, during & after pics)

If you look at the before pictures you will see that there are a few bad scratches that would not come out with normal buffing, therefore I had to wetsand. The panel behind the trunk had lots of scratches from people putting stuff in the trunk, so I decided to wetsand the whole piece.

Good idea, never saw the scratches. Looks really good by the way.

A while back I did a 03 Black C7 Corvette that is used for a dailly driver plus the owner parks in it the sun 8 hrs a day, lives on a dirt road. That needed wet sanding org pell. Here is some pic's. (OH hey my 56k modem over heated)

Good thing you didn't use DACP. With all that splatter, you would have gone mad trying to clean it all :-)

Awesome transformation with the scratches. It always amazes how some high end car owners just trash the paint on the cars.

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone.

To tell you the truth I actually enjoyed detailing this car because a few people said that there was absolutely no way that I would be able to get all the sctaches out, so this made me more determined to prove them wrong. I actually bet one of my buddy's that if I got the scratches completely out that he had to buy me lunch, and if I couldn't than I would do the same. Needless to say, he bought me a steak tip dinner for lunch. :woot2:

Tell me about it. I get sick when I see a customer's S500. It sits in his driveway, gets nailed by the sprinklers regularly and he seems think his trunk lid is the best place in the world to set his briefcase and coffee mug. :sadpace:

Dang Rick I would buy your lunch if you do my old truck j/k anyway great work take it from a some one that did a Corvette lots of bending over, good thing you don’t live in S.F. oh and hey the pic's above compared the Corvette yours looks a lot better. I only had so much time so…

It really is unbelievable that people treat their cars like this whether or not they a lot of money. About 2 weeks ago, a friend of one of my co-workers brought 2 of his cars down to have me go through them and fix little things wrong, dent removal, get the bumpers painted and finally a detail. One car was a 2000 SL500 Sport and the other was a 2002 CL600. Definitely not cheap cars.

When I first saw the cars, I honestly wanted to cry because of the horrible shape they were in. The CL's tires had the steel belts coming through and the SL's brakes were squealing pretty bad. Nevermind the horrible condition of the interiors & exteriors. I just don't understand people :hairpull

Inspiring work, just perfect...AMAZING DETAIL

On the engine I used some general purpose cleaner made by Kar Kraft, a local reconditioning supply company. I wet the engine down with the hose, spray the GP on the motor and let it sit for about 60 seconds and agitate it with a wheel brush and then rinse it down with the hose. When I'm done I blow out the engine compartment with an air hose and wipe down the painted surfaces around the hood with a micro fiber towel with a little mist of OCW.

For the scratches I just wetsanded and compounded. The scratches did not penetrate the clearcoat, so I lucked out and didn't have to fill them with paint.

what steps are involved when you compound after wetsanding ??

basically,, you just use the compound normally. PC/rotary and Cutting pad.

3M RC will take care of 1200 grade sanding marks,,,,but most will finish there sanding with 2000 grit anyway.....

Its neat showing people the finish after wetsanding,,,, they freak....until they see it after compounding!!!!! like glass.

i've posted these before,,,but will again just for fun....
