Black 98' Corvette (3-day makeover) 56K no way!

Oustanding as always Rick. This was a makeover clinic. I hate to see a quality Vette like that abused so much. Exterior is super wet and interior looks very clean indeed.

So you used 3M Imperial Microfinishing Compound on auto paint! I thought that was for marine paint. :D



Anyway... Did you use the PC for the 3M PI-II RC, IP, and OP? Or was that all via rotary?



How long did it take you to polish the complete exterior? And why so many products? I'm just curious.

Is there any way you could list your pads and speeds you applied the products with? Little beginner info. :D

This detail definitely took a lot of hard work to get looking good again. I worked on the car over a 3 day period and I'm guessing that I have about 12 to 15 hours into the exterior alone. I'm definitely not looking forward to another Corvette in this kind of shape. Usually these kinds of details are fun because it is very rewarding to see the end results, but this was a very tough car because of the rock hard GM clearcoat. I wouldn't normally use so many products on a car, but on this particular job it was necessary and well worth the time & effort I put into it.



To answer a few questions....



All work was done by rotary using a variety of pads.



For the Microfinishing Compound I used a Kar Kraft twisted wool pad @ 1800 RPM



For the 3M PI II RC and the IP I used a yellow ripple foam cutting pad I get from the Kar Kraft disributor (which I will have to call to find out who makes the pads)



The 3M PI II RC was buffed @ 1600 RPM and both passes if IP were buffed @ 1400-1500 RPM



For the OP I used a black ripple foam finishing pad that I also get from Kar Kraft (made by the same company who makes the yellow on mentioned above). It was buffed @ 1400 RPM.



Everything else was done by hand.



The leather conditioner was actually made by Auto Magic, not Blue Coral. My mistake.

You are absolutely right. I can definitely feel the burn in my bicepts and I can barely use my left arm because I get tendonitis in my left elbow.



My back actually isn't that bad.

Holy...freakin'...crap. Even my wife was awestruck. Without knowing her that may not sound like much, but she asked if it was the same car. You are one of the zen masters of the rotary. :buffing: Excellent, excellent work!
