Black 92 325i - 168k miles (56k NO!)

A friend of mine just got this car handed down (purchased from parents). He wanted it cleaned up and of course he came to me :) I haven't done much detailing since it's been cold, but thankfully it warmed up just a bit this week.

Process:

- Wash

- TOL Wheel Cleaner x3

- AIO on wheels (lots of scrubbing)

- Armorall on tires/wells

- Zaino Z12 glass polish, Stoner's IG

- Sonus Leather Cleaner and Conditioner

- Vacuum (3hp shop vac)

- Meg's Quik Interior Detailer (lots... love the smell)

- Razor blade and 3M adhesive remover for window stickers and baked-on tape

:waxing:

- OCC with rotary and cutting pad @ 1200-1500 rpm

- OCP with rotary and polish pad @ 1200rpm

- VM with PC and polish pad @ 6 (including all plastic/bumpers/trim)

- AIO + #16 on rocker panels (after photos were taken)

- Natty's Blue by hand

- QuikShine by hand

Oddly, the hood is SS (BLACK pads!), but the entire rest of the car is B/C... :think2

So, on to the photos...

Anyway, that's that :)

thanks for all the positive comments, guys. it was a long detail, probably about 10 hours. I kept having rotary issues (skipping pad... loaded up quickly - i need some wool pads!) and then holograms with the PC! Had to step that down a bit. Actually, come to think of it, the PC was used with a FINISHING pad and VM... Paint was that soft.

Even then, there IS some micromarring left, but my only alternative would be to move to a finishing pad and... I don't know? low-speed PC with AIO? I suppose I could glaze it... Alas - it looks good in 95% of lighting conditions from 3 feet, so I'm not that concerned.

Picus - I'll see about getting some shots of the rocker panels when he picks it up tomorrow. They're so-so... They really need a good scrubbing (VM + PC, probably) but they're a dull oxidized single stage (and soft) with some rust spots that I might pick up in the machine... I'd prefer to let well-enough alone and not wear through the paint if at all possible.

Wow, what an improvement. I saw the OCC with rotary and cutting pad and was thinking "Oh come on, it can't be that bad..." ... I think my jaw about hit the floor when I saw the befores. If that had a trashed interior too, that would be a great "extreme detail" contest entry.

Good work my man :)

Wow, amazing results! I have to detail a 94' 325i with 185,000 miles next week. Can't wait !!

Your friend must be blown away.

Very nice corrective work done here...kudos to you, car looks good.

I have a 2002 325i in Black on the books in a few weeks that looks that bad.

Thanks, everyone. I didn't get those sideskirt shots, but then again it was nothing special to look at... They had some gloss and a little darker look to them, but they're not going to come back much - like I said in my previous post - without some more serious attention.
