Bird dropped one on new paint...questions

Hi. I'm just registered after hearing good things about this forum. Anyway, a couple weeks ago someone keyed the trunk lid on my 2 month old Accord coupe in graphite pearl. i was lucky enough to have a really good shop nearby that did a great job painting it to look exactly as it did. But today i noticed a bird dropping which when removed left a dull spot in the clear coat. It didn't eat the clear away or anything major like that. But it did take the mirror finish to a slightly dull patina thats obvious in certain light. Not a big deal, but annoying when it's a new car and i just had the trunk painted.

So my question is, since i cannot wax it for a month or so, is there anything i CAN use on it that won't react with the new paint which will allow me to rub it out to a final polish that won't add fine scratchs? Or should i wait till the paint is fully cured? Any advice or thoughts are appriciated. Thanks.

By the way....anyone else ever notice that it seems as tho 90% of the bad things that happen to your car during your ownership seem to happen within the first few months after you get it?:sosad

It sounds as if the bird poo stained the top coat, which can happen in 30 minutes or less:eek:

Many times I have been able to wetsand these out and then re-polish.

I suggest you take it back to the body shop and see what they say. They may try to buff it out first and then wetsand it if needed. I can almost guarantee that an over the counter product will not remove it. A PRO is the best way to go in this case.

Congrats on the new car, post up some pics when you can.

Well, i did take it back today. But not because of the bird dropping. While inspecting the mark again i noticed something......the original key scratch was showing thru. It seems they didn't fully get it out and as the new paint cured it shrunk and the line shows in certain light. so they're going to fix it friday. they mentioned the possibility of rubbing it out, but i'm gonna tell them i don't want that. they guarranteed my satisfaction and said they'd repaint it if i wasn't happy. rubbing it out isn't an option as far as i'm concerned because i paid for a paint job done right, and rubbing it out will leave me with a much thinner clearcoat.

So anyway, the bird dropping now is my least important concern. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the person who keyed my new car.......with a freakin shotgun !

:nervous2:

I, too, have suffered at the mercy of flying fowl. 3 weeks in, I get hit today get the "bulk" of the dropping off, yet the finish is flat, no longer glossy. Not sure what to do at this point. Pretty bummed out, to say the least. True, they will occur again, but it's not knowing what to do this time that's the bummer. Any words of wisdom?
