ok i have two chips on the Grand National hood. Still original paint non clear coated. i used a nick sander to sand to the metal. Primered it, then put three coats of black. Now there is a notceable mound that must be sanded down. need some tips on wet sanding and what grade sand paper I should use. Or does it need to be repaired at a body shop? thanks for any suggestions.

Langka pretty much got a suck review on this board.

Go to www.carcareonline.com and get some 2000 grit Meguiars sanding block for like $15, a bottle of 3M Perfect It Fine Cut Rubbing Compound, and a bottle of 3M Swirl Mark Remover.

www.meguiars.com has a on-line clinic on wet-sanding.

First soak the snading block in a mixture of water and car wash shampoo(four ounce water to 1/2-1 ounce shampoo), overnight.

Wash the car and dry. On the parts you are going to sand, mitt some new car wash shampoo solution onto it(1-2 ounces of shampoo to 1/2 gallon water). Gently glide the block from bumper to bumper going in ONLY ONE direction, ie gently glide toward you then lift the block off the surface, DO NOT go back and forth. Rinse, dry, check work.

Once level take the 3M RC and polish out the sanding marks. Follow up with 3M SMR to bring out the cars shine. Seal and Wax.

I think this is how it goes in the Meguiars clinic.

I made my own selection of sanding blocks. Go to the local art supply store and check out the various size and stiffness of the rubber erasors. I have 4 or 5 that I use for different situations. Simply wrap the sandpaper around the block, wet and sand. Use 1500-2000 grit paper.:up

plus...make yourself up a spray bottle with a solution of water with a little car wash soap to sray as you sand. Use plenty of lubricant to wash away the grit and check your work every couple of strokes or you can go right through the paint. I know as I did that on a mirror fixing a scratch. I use a 2500 grit meguires block in addition to the erasure and paper like Brad talked about. JUST BEEEEEE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!

Man, wet sanding scares me. I have to attempt a repair about the size of a pencil eraser the the Honda's hood. :( Not looking forward to that in the spring.
