BFWD staining?

I have a new (now 950 miles) Carbon Black BMW M5 and I'm getting ready to apply the first coat of wax to her. The dealer detailed it on delivery 3 weeks ago with Zymol. The car is a "fun" car and is garaged and never driven except on clear days. The paint appears pristine (as I suppose it should). I'm planning on using P21S wax

Here are my questions:

Do I need to use the P21 paint cleaner with my paint and finish already in perfect condition?

Will the paint cleaner do any harm if I use it frequently? Restated, if I want to wax my car 6 or more times a year, will the frequent use of the cleaner hurt the long term appearance of my paint? Should I only use the cleaner once or twice a year since the car will not be exposed to any harsh conditions?

Thanks in advance! You guys have a great board here!

If the paint is clean the paint cleaner is not required. many people do use the cleaner so they knwo the paint is clean.

You probably only need to apply paint cleaner 2-3 times a year if it is a garage beauty. I have black car and often only apply the wax when the I know the surface is clean.

Great car!

Welcome to the forum! Great car and color you have chosen.

Now back to your question.... If the M5's paint is clean and free of any swirl marks, just wax right over the zymol you have. Use the Paint Cleanser only if you feel bumps on the paint or any other contamination.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the wonderful new car you have purchased! Amazing machines, those M5's. Anyway, enough drooling.

You have been given good advice above, I'd just like to add a little onto what BW said and that is this: to test the surface of your car for "bumps" put your hand inside of a thin plastic/cellophane bag and move it on the surface of the car. You may be amazed at what this magnification of your sense of touch does...

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies guys. Your forum is awesome!

I look forward to the results with the P21S.

I don't agree with using a paint cleaner on a garage queen 2-3 times a year! This premise especially holds true on a garage queen. Laters

Finally ready to use my new bottle of BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond but am a little concerned about staining the black matte plastic trim on the car. Does it turn the moldings white? If not, has anyone puposely put it on the black trim to protect it from fading, etc?
Thanks

I've never had it stain my trim. I've used it several times over my trim and never had any problems.

If you're worried about it. Just find a spot you can test first. You shouldn't have any problems though.

newpassat,

You should not have much of an issue with the BFWD, but you should as with any new product test on a small area first. Most people do not see a staining problem, although we have had a customer with a Jeep say his vinyl trim did stain. Some vinyl/rubber types react differently to various products. Look at tire dressings and how they work on different brands of tires.

I agree with Jack. I also, have never had a problem with BFWD staining my trim. It is always a good idea to err on the side of caution though. Doing a small test area is something that you should always practice, to make sure your products are reacting the way you want them to.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I actually had it stain the rubber trim around my windows and the plastic trim around my windshield wipers. I wanted to do a test spot and yeah it stained. Now I have to try to get it off LOL anyone have a cure?

Mobile, try a little APC and a toothbrush.

As noted BFWD can stain some trim, but for the most trims it is not going to be a problem. However, given the infinite number of variables in plastic trim alone it would be irresponsible for us to say it 'won't stain' just that it probably won't.

I have used a LOT of BFWD and never had it stain, but I that doesn't mean it won't!

Thanks Todd, I'll try that out. This was the only thing I didn't like about the product, everything else is awesome. I love this stuff, I just have to be carefull on some cars. Thanks again.

Hello Mobilejay -

Can you share with the forum the make/model/year vehicle that had the problem (so we can avoid the problem)?

Regards,
GEWB
