BFWD on Collinite 845 on 205 = fail?

a few months ago I bought a black silverado, polished it to mirror finish (m105/205) and topped it with collinite 845 via DA. I put the 845 right on without doing a complete alcohol wipe of the whole truck. I noticed some oily streaking as days passed and decided a wash later to put some BFWD on top, hoping that when I buffed it off some of the oils would come off too. the paint looked GREAT! super slick and tightest beading in the rain I've ever seen.

I've only washed the truck with ONR or Chemical Guys MaxiSuds II in foam cannon (which advertises it does not strip wax). Just today I did the truck and noticed that water sheets and no longer beads....***? Has my barricade of sealant been compromised completely because i did not properly remove the polishing residues of 205?

tssdetailing- Which generation/version of ONR did you wash it with? Some older ONR killed 845 (and even 476S) awfully fast for me.

Not sure about applying the BFWD over 845, but if there were any problems with it I woulda expected you to notice right away.

Whether your failure to strip the M205 oils contributed to the LSP dying off I can't say. People *talk* about stuff like that a lot, but plenty of "oil rich" products (including some by Meguiar's) work fine under LSPs with no stripping. The streaking that you noticed was, however, probably a clue that something was amiss.

I would think you would top BFWD with the 845, not the other way around. I've used 205 for years and haven't noticed it's oils mess with any LSP I've used, but I do wash it before LSP so that may be a factor.

I think you should use either BFWD or 845 but not both. Topping is way overrated IMO and there is so little to gain by doing twice as much work and spending twice as much on products.

I don't think #205 was the problem, I've put Opti-Seal on over it with absolutely no problems.

My thoughts exactly. I will admit that i have layered products and the BFWD and 845 was my choice of LSP's for layering but quickly realized that it was a waste of product IMO, but i have never had the issue that your having. After polishing it's either a wash with CGCW at paint prep ratio or IPA wipe down (depends). Remember you can layer all the products you feel like but if the first one doesn't properly bond then you really are just wasting product and time.

Thanks everyone for your responses it sounds like I simply rushed the ending and should have stripped the 205 off. Total rookie mistake!

This... the fail might have been on your own man... not trying to be a jerk about it. It's always a wax over a sealant as far as i've always read anyway.

No one has yet inquired about environmental factors, like "Is the truck left outdoors 24/7?" I gather it's been a couple of months since the BFWD was applied, right? Well, BFWD does not enjoy a reputation for great durability. I have found it's decent, but not great. Depending on what your truck's been exposed to and for how long, 8-12 weeks might be all you can expect from a coat of BFWD.

she is 100% an out door animal.

Here are some photos after last nights storms....maybe I'm just being paranoid because the water sheets off when I use the pressure washer.
