BF 2 Methods

I had the privledge of testing out the new formula of blackfire. I've been very impressed with the product with the exception that it has been a bear for me to remove. I was using way too much product, and if I tried to use less, it seemed as if I wasn't getting even coverage. At any rate, the finish always was streaky until it got washed again. It just didn't seem to want to spread around that well, like it was too thick. Today I wanted to test something out. We all know BF is water-based, so I mixed a little BF2 up with some distilled water in a little dispenser bottle. The mix was close to 50/50. I put about a dime sized dot on my foam app and did half of the hood. I let it sit there for about 10 minutes, came back, and it wiped right off! No streaking, no mess, no nothing but a beautiful shine. The hood felt as slick as if I had done it without the diluted mix. So, after doing this, I'd like some other people with the new formula to test this out and see if it's any easier for them. I'll update everyone on how durable it is after being diluted prior to application.

I had mentioned that in my review of Blackfire. There were a few places on the car where water got on the pad and the BF2 dried very quickly there. It almost turned dusty. It did wipe off very easily, but I didn't really have too much problem with the BF2 anyway. It seemed like the wet part was just as slick and shiny afterwards, so it didn't seem to affect the coating. But I really wasn't very exhaustive in examining it. Thanks for sharing that experiment, though. I'd be interested to hear any further updates about it. I might have to try it next time I BF the car (it currently has Souveran on top, so it won't be until spring sometime).

Very interesting results. Nicely perform experiment:xyxthumbs . Several questions;

What type of applicator were you using? I used MF with great results and no spreading problems.

What do you mean by removal problems ( smearing, incomplete buffing, hazing, etc)?

How long did you allow undiluted BF2 to dry?

What were you using for removal ( 100% cotton or MF)?

What was the ambient conditions ( cold, hot, humid, etc.)

What color is your car?

The reason I state that your results are interesting is because of Blackfire's and Terry's instructions state not to use a moist applicator because this may lead to difficulty in removing (buffing) protectant.:nixweiss

Not doubting your results just would like more info. Sound like something this mad scientist will try :xyxthumbs :wavey

What type of applicator were you using? I used MF with great results and no spreading problems:I've used the supplied MF as well as my foam apps. I like the foam apps better

What do you mean by removal problems ( smearing, incomplete buffing, hazing, etc)? The stuff would just smear around because I had to put too much on there.

How long did you allow undiluted BF2 to dry? 10 minutes

What were you using for removal ( 100% cotton or MF)? MF

What was the ambient conditions ( cold, hot, humid, etc.)?45*

What color is your car? Black

Basically, as I said earlier, it just gave it a streaky finish until I washed it. It just seemed too thick to spread easy. It's a nice warm day and sunny outside, so I'm going to go play with my mixture some more. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on the durability.

Sound like a great idea ( dilution) when the temperature is low (45*). 10 minutes is not nearly enough time for undiluted BF2 to dry (hazy) at 45*. As a matter of fact I allow BF2 to dry/hazy for at least 30 minutes even in warm weather >60*.

i'm not sure about bf2 (mine should be in today) but with bf1 the streaking i got was caused by additional product left over. Ie i didn't buff it all. The solution was just to go over the car once with a QD spray. That usually cleaned it up.

Also i've noticed too that mostiure is good for removing stuff (like FI-II) but water is sometimes bad (makes klasse tougher too). The solution? Spray your applicator pad with your QD spray lightly before you put the BF2 on it. Then try some. If you want to test that out please let us know. If not i'll do it tomorrow if mine comes in today.

how long to you have to let BF2 sit on your car before you buff it off? Is this time to allow for proper bonding? And what does temp have to do with it? If it is colder out then I should let it sit less time? or visa versa?
