best wax and/or sealent for black?

i dont understand the obsession with souveran...i tried it like 6 different times and i never once thought it was the end all be all for black cars. but as they say looks are personal.

as for the OP, I second blackfire WD that stuff is super easy!

Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant top off with Blackfire Midnight Sun for the perfect shine that one's looking for during the summer time then for winter time Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant top off with Collinite Paste Wax. You can't go wrong!

Carnauba: Clearkote's Carnauba Moose. Very rich, deep look on black. Very good durability too.

Sealant: Optimum Opti-Seal or Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant. OS has very good depth for a sealant plus looks very wet, Wolfgang has the most carnauba look of any sealant I've used.

....... To bring out even more gloss I polished one dark red Ford Edge with Megs M205 and a black LC pad before applying BWD, and WOW did the paint ever POP after I was done with BWD.... Best combination I have seen yet.

Just need some advice from you...a BFWD seasoned user!

After your polishing job and buffing off the polish residue (eg; Megs 205, Menz85RD etc)....do you apply BFWD immediately, or is it necessary to wipedown with alcohol or etc first, before applying BFWD???

I've done a total of 2 vehicles with BFWD, hardly a seasoned user.....

Not necessary at all. After polishing I went right to BFWD. Some people adhere to the ISO wipedown and that is fine I guess. I just like the incredible gloss that M205 leaves behind and didn't want to take anything away from that.

This has probably been said a million times by a million different people but.... Use thin..... coats, it's easy for one to get it on too thick. But the nice thing seems to be that BFWD is a little more forgiving if applied a little thick than some of the other sealants I've used, namely Megs #21.

Many of my customers (Black Hondas) posed the same question as yours last month.

My advice to them is to keep it simple - Megs NXT2 or Megs Gold Class. [/B]

I am not a Megs dealer, and I don't like MOST of their products, except the compounds and 205.

I know, I know...NXT and GC have very low durability.

I conducted a Detailing Class in my shop for 25 participants. A BLIND test was conducted to see if they could pick out any diff between Pinnacle, Blackfire and 5 other brands of products on identical black Hondas. 85% of the group preferred the Gold Class look....and I consider this product a "forgotten baby"!! in the detailing world.

13 participants started to use Gold Class and NXT2 on their black Hondas.

1. Every 3-4wks, apply the product.

2. Every weekend, after washing, spray Megs UQW on top of Gold Class, and UQW on top of NXT2.

Those black cars look CONSISTENTLY beautiful. Minor marring are adequately covered up, and the black finish looks great.

Simple and fuss-free.

gigondaz, I have to support what your participants concluded. Gold Class is a very under-rated beauty wax for blacks. Yes that's right, a beauty wax!! Poor durability for sure, but no worse (and probably better than) Souveran.

It really darkens richer darker colours and gives them excellent gloss/reflectivity without a loss of depth.

I guess this makes me a heretic! :nana:

Power Lock + Souveran, the best combo I've ever seen on a black.

Looks even better in reality than on paper.

Fair dinkum, mate! Well said!

I miss Australia!

The participants were all hardcore detailing enthusiasts who're die-hard users of Swissvax, Zymol, Dodo, Natty, Blackfire (BFWD+Midnight Sun), Zaino Z2pro and Opti-Seal. Most use Klasse AIO and Poly Seal to cleanse their paintwork, and each of their cars have been very well-prepped. Some hv even been wet-sanded.

It was actually a discussion forum to discuss prepping and LSPs and therefore, only for seasoned detailing enthusiasts.

They were asked to look at a few brand new Civics (with the new, very black Honda Crystal Pearl Black) that hv been identically prepped. All were parked in the open at the same angle to the sun for fairness. No one was allowed to touch the cars.

I did not mention anything about each car already being LSP'ed differently.

And they initially thought, we're supposed to start applying LSPs to test them out..!

85% of them commented that only 2 cars have been LSP'ed....the Gold Class car and Opti-Seal car.

I was shocked.

Most of their attention gravitated towards the Gold Class Civic that attracted the most comments/praises, and just to show my fairness, I asked them to open each car's door to see the bottle of product that was used on each respective car. Some of the products belonged to them!

They were shocked!:lol

On a well prepped surface, Gold Class (left to cure overnite) + a spritz of Megs UQW is killer. . A sheep in wolf's clothing. The forgotten underdog.

A classic Colt .45ACP vs the new Glocks and FNs!!!:lol

Regular application of UQW will make it even more fantastic. I top it with Collinite 845 to enhance its durability.

Oh yes...I generally do not support Meguiar's products except for 105, 205, 85, 83, GC, Interior Quik detailer and UQW. I am also certainly not a Megs dealer:chuckle:
