Best Product to Remove This...

Hello Everyone,



My wheels have what appears to be baked on brake dust/grime. Unfortunately the previous owner didnt came much about taking care of the wheels. Two months ago i tried utilizing some Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish. It was able to remove a good amount of it, however it appears i constantly need to use Mothers to get the build up off. Is there anything on the market strong enough where i can spray it on and simply wash it off?



I Heard some good feedback about Sonus. Anyone have experience using it? Would it help my issue? Here are some pics as reference

I don't know where you are or how they'd ship it but it's a nice product because it's not dangerous. Follow the directions concerning dilution and use a soft brush. Also, since I'm peddling stuff for other people, check out these parts brushes.

Interesting I'll look into it. Has anyone tried Sonax wheel cleaner or Wolf's Chemicals "Brake Duster" Wheel cleaner? Are they true to their claim? Anyone know where I might be able to pick it up locally, ie. PepBoys, autozone etc?



Someone also recommended a wheel sealant, is this really worth it?
 
Ahh yes. The dreaded BMW wheel dust. I have the 162s on my car as well, and keep them protected with a coat of wax or polish. I find the brake dust easier to remove if there is some kind of barrier between it and the wheel itself.



As far as cleaners go, I use Sonax exclusively now, however, have also found BMW's own wheel cleaner to be pretty effective. Once your wheels are clean and protected, you'll find that a product like Sonax will work just fine on its own with little to no agitation required to keep the wheels clean.

Toicy, welcome aboard! That doesn't look that bad and on-going, weekly cleanings with a proper wheel cleaner may ultimately remove those minor stains witout you going thru any heroic acts.



I think the Wolf's de-con product and a toothbrush would make short work of that.



I'm a huge fan of the Autoglym wheel cleaner:

vtextc, how does Sonax compare to BMW's wheels cleaner?
 
I like the Sonax better, although in our neck of the woods it is more expensive (I have to order Sonax online vs. BMW over the local dealer's counter). I also like how Sonax changes colour from green to red as it reacts with the contaminants on the wheels. It just seems to work better (more agressive?) than the BMW product. As the previous poster has suggested, your staining doesn't look all that bad. A good clean (maybe even try some kind of paint cleaner), followed up with a good coat of wax and then regular cleanings with a wheel cleaner like Sonax, and you should be good to go.
