Best Pads for Makita 9227

What is the ideal size pad for the Makita 9227? I have been using 7.5" pads but didn't know if larger pads 8.5" are better or if using a 6" pad is easier to use?

I use 6.5" for my PC also, could go smaller there to if needed?

also what is the brand of choice out there nowadays, is it still the LC pads or the Clasiic Motor constant pressure pads or sonus, etc?

I use the Makita backing plate with LC 7.5" Concaved Buffing Pads...They last long, produce the most swirl free shine of pads I've used, and I love the concaved design.

I cant wait to get my Makita this spring :) I wont be using it on my car or parents because I keep them up enough to where a PC will do more than enough, but I do details around my area (Cars are always in ROUGH shape, for some extra cash flow and to pay for all the detail products I buy.

To add to the thread.... The backing plate that comes with the Makita will suffice to work with 7.5 pads? I assume with just the makita there are no need for counter weights to be purchased and the backing plate is already velcro? For instance..If I order the Makita 9227C from Autogeek and a cut pad and polish pad, is there anything else that I will need?? Sorry for the questions on this thread, but I figure while the subject is up might as well post instead of starting a new thread. :)

GSRstilez, Since you have bought the makita it seems you have been using more and more on your car, do you even bother breaking out the PC anymore??

When I went with my friend to get his 9227, he got the flexible 3M backing plate. I noticed that the one which comes with the Makita is not very flexible.

i use the Edge 2000 pads with my Makita 9227. i have the medium cut yellow pad, then light cut green pad and the polishing blue pad. i use the "quick connect" adapter and the "double sided" Edge pads. they are perfectly center everytime, and even though they cost 18 bucks, they are double sided and last a long time. Also, when my pads get too "built" up with polish, i just disconnect, and flip it over and use the other side. those are the only pads i have used but Dwayne and 4star recommended them to me when i purchased my rotary. although i havn't used any other pads, i havn't had any problems with these whatsoever.

Are you refering to the Variable contacts? If so, I like

them too, but they always seem to grow legs and walk

off somewhere....

I prefer the 6.5 pads on a "flex" plate, the same pads I use with the PC. I also use the 4" ones for spot repairs. Possibly just familiarity, but I prefer these sizes over the larger pads.

I prefer the conventional style pads for rotary use over the VC/etc. ones. But it's gonna be a personal preference thing, so try different ones and see what works for *you*.

I use 7.5's and sometimes I think about changing to pads in the 6" range. I never think about going up to the 8's. I like to concenrtate on the smallest possible section at a time.
